Sorry to hear about the layoff and the need to sell two bikes. We can't make your selection for you. In my opinion, DH bikes are usually the first to go in tough economic times because they also represent the least frequent and most expensive riding experience for most riders (driving, lift tickets or shuttle costs, broken or worn bike parts, body armor and broken body parts).

Good luck and I hope you land on your feet figuratively and literally.

Sorry to hear it. I haven't felt security in a job since 2009. Seems to be the new normal.

if I have any advice, get back on the horse as fast as you can. anything over 3-6 months of being out of the job is usually dismissed upon by hr software and a lot of managers.

I had often thought about leaving the federal sector for something Corporate, but it certainly is difficult to beat job security. Even the yearly threat of fiscal shutdown doesn't bother me much anymore.

If you have a decent amount of experience, you may be able to go G as well.

As for what bikes to sell, I'd go with the two you use the least.

btw, ADECCO is a placement agency that is great for technical jobs. robert half is pretty good for business admin. these two are the only ones who consistently deliver in my experience. hope that helps.

not true..it depends what you're are applying for (what type of agency, series, etc.) For example, if you have a college degree and under 37 (at the time of appointment), you can apply with most federal law enforcement agencies (i.e. FBI, DEA, ATF, USMS, ICE, USSS, etc). As long as you clear out (your BG), you will most likely get on-board in about 1 year. DEA/FBI is continually taking applications.

    +1.

My prior employer shut its operation down back in 2011. I was the last one standing and got to turn off the lights. Lots of people were expressing sympathy about me losing my job. The ones who "get it" said congratulations. I had known it was coming for a year and suspected it for even longer, so I was able to downsize all my expenses long before (rent, car, spending) and save up some money. That allowed me to take a good chunk of time off and I made good use of it with road trips all over the western US. I had never been able to take much time off work before so this was an amazing time for me and I have no regrets whatsoever. If you are in a position to take some time off I would definitely do it, take as much time as you can. You may feel like you are broke but you can do a lot without paying for much more than gas. Of course if you have committments like mortgage, kids or shopaholic wife you are F'd.

my suggestion, think about what skills you have and consider working for yourself. Seems impossible to start a business from the outside, not true, it just takes lots of passion and an idea. Now is actually a great time to do it since so many people feel down and out and actually the number of new business formed each year has gone down.

    Hey, Chuba.
Don't dispair. It always feels like you've been kicked in the nuts right before you embark on a journey that leads you to things that are bigger and better. If they hadn't fired you, you'd still be toiling away for those clowns who didn't appreciate your awesomeness. Seriously. You can't move toward greatness until you leave the mediocrity behind. You'll do great.
