For the Strava whores (I am one)...a "club" has been started on Strava for Vision Quest/Counting Coup Training:

    http://app.strava.com/clubs/41110

Not sure who started it, but its public, and is another way of communicating training rides, methods, what other people are doing to get ready, etc.

Fairly quick, some guys made it Lot to lot, others to the end of one Lap (this was 2 weeks ago).

Im debating to so this this weekend, i just changed tires, back to my all time favorite renegades, not sure i want to be up there on 1.95's. Might bring a spare tire tho- Would be nice to beat my time with a different ring size that of 34, its best to stick with 32 for this one.

Hey Mario- I saw your ride. Did you guys have any support? I've wanted to do that in one loop but was worried I wouldn't have enough water. We were thinking about stashing some the bottom of Motorway.

    Rick, Thanks for the Kudos-

To answer your question directly, "No Support". Loop was performed efficiently as possible.

    1. 100oz of mix fluids, no stand alone water-
    2. The right Gels every 45minutes-
    3. "No Food", only liquids-
    4. No caffeine in your primary source of resources-
    5. FYI, This may not work for everyone for i am not a coach or trainer = )

If you are naturally inherited or cramp easily, you have to figure out what works for you.

A great way to do the CC loop unsupported is to park at the bottom of Motorway then ride back down Silverado over to Blackstar to start your ride. That way, you can leave water, food, whatever you want in your car at the bottom of Mwy and somewhat simulate an aid station. That cuts down on what you have to haul with you on the B*Mwy loop.

I ride with Mario sometimes and you have to remember how fast he is and that translates to less time on the bike and thus less water. I would stash water at the bottom of Motorway..

Yeah, I'm, aware of how fast he is. I had to deal with that all summer.

I'm sure I would be able to make it with 100oz camel back and a large water bottle. I may carry another one in the camel back to be safe. I rode Cooks/Harding/Peak Holy Jims on Sunday with 100z and had quite a bit left over. I'll look tonight and see exactly how much.

So Mario... why no caffeine in primary source...just the dehydration effect... I use the perpetuem w/ caffiene maybe I will go back to regular. I am a big coffee /espresso guy, but I have learned to start to cut back a day or two before my big training rides and not do drink it in the morning of the big rides due to diuretic effect...is that your concern.. just curious? I am a trial and error guy.

Yes that is what I do from time to time.........also stashing water works but you need to make two trips to the trailhead.

If I park there I'd need to ride back up Silverado at the end to get to the truck. ha ha Not that I couldn't make that, but its not exactly a fun way to end a mega ride like that.

I work not too far away, so running by there on Friday isn't an issue.

There is a little liquor store off Live Oak, or free water at Oneil to get you back to the car. No need to stash on that end.

    Park at Maple
    Road Ride to BlackStar
    Up BlackStar
    Down the Motorway
    Refill water food at vehicle

From there you decide what you want to do........good news is you finish your ride DH to your car :)

Not if you go over the peak and down the Holy Jim's....then you gotta ride back around via Santiago Canyon, then back up to Maple Springs to get your car.

Exactly. Initial plan was to park at Trabuco/Live Oak so that all the hard work is done once I hit the peak.

    Good Morning,

I do use Caffeine, not on my main bottles! I am a firm believer of Saturation Effect, as well as yours- you mentioned. I like my training/fitness carry me as humanly possible, with out having to rely on other sources of boosters (all the time). I switch from 40shots to no caffeine shots every other when applicable, in forms of gel's.

Perpetuem is great, i however choose to use another source ingredients/fillers to replenish my body on the fly.
