Don't they have a min weight a bike can weigh? Why wouldn't you use that weight saving somewhere else?

Wouldn't a full suspension bike take some of the stress off of the seat post bolts?

Hah. I use nothing but ti bolts all over my frames. ...where I ride, corrosion is a much bigger issue and gleefully goes around popping steel bolts in tension's little heads off with aplomb.

However, Paris-Roubaix makes fools of us all.

P-R will destroy solid built equipment. Just ask George Hincapie, years ago in Paris-Roubaix he was doing well and then just veers of the road. Turns out he snapped the stem on his handle bars. And look at the stack of wheels left over at the Mavic van after the race.

Come on guys, don't get your panties up in a wad by my comment about the titanium bolts. This should be more about the video and how amazing that guy is to ride so long and far standing (ok, he sat once in a while).

If you watch carefully around the one minute mark, you can see where the top of the seat clamp is spinning around the front bolt. The rear bolt is missing.

I also use titanium bolts on many parts of my bikes. But I only use them in strategic locations - places that are subject to high tensile forces and failures will hurt. But I'm sure you [weight] weenies know that Syntace is one of the standards of lightweight parts.

Here's what they have to say about their titanium bolts:
"Syntace titanium bolts are no substitute for bolts above 8.8 strength - recognizable through stampings of “10.9” or “12.9” on the screw head. If in doubt you have to assume that titanium bolts are NOT suited for the application to ensure your own safety."

    http://www.syntace.com/index.cfm?pid=3&pk=373

And cultursponge, I've seen pictures of your Niner on mtbr. Hardly would that be considered a bike used for rough offroad conditions where one would need to be concerned with durability. It's essentially a road bike with flat bars.

the wife recently bought a Syntace F109 60mm stem with stronger/lighter Syntace titanium bolts - smashing - also her Syntace P6 carbon seatpost came with titanium bolts too

culturesponge, I don't hate your bike! It's an awesome bike, and I'm sure it's particularly fast on open, smooth trails.

its all cool, your experience in Japan couldn't have been too good

smooth is the keyword with that bike, hurts my eyes to look at it - but so much fun to stomp it

broken seatpost/saddle/bolts ect on a really long race with little rider support can't be much fun

team SKY seem to have the worst of luck - i should stop supporting Brad or Geraint, turn off the telly & ride a damn bike instead - & hey maybe their luck will change :)
