-Can you get to another website in either browser?
    -Wired or wireless?
-Can you ping your gateway or any external site?
-Stop looking at non-STR approved bike pr0n

If you are able to access any website in at least one of the browsers then there is no need to ping your gateway or any external site. Pretty much means that you are getting http traffic.
I did a few minutes of reading last night based on Chrome (since I use this browser) and apparently it's a common problem. Sadly, the only fix is uninstalling and re-installing ala Microsoft. Not an acceptable answer but that is what was recommended.

Firefox...looks like the common trend is cache or web extensions which causes this problem. I believe you already cleared the cache. Do you have any extensions enabled?

Whenever I have problems with webpages not loading correctly I first flush the DNS cache. Type ipconfig/flushdns in command prompt or
    1. Open the Start menu.
    2. Go to Run
    3. In the Run text box, type: ipconfig /flushdns
    4. Press Enter or Return, and your cache will be flushed.

i say why waste time.. just do a fresh OS reload. ;)

i would try to flush the dns first though. also try to it wired up to see if it makes a difference. just make sure you turn off the wireless when you do.

Thanks for the replies guys. Dang! I think reinstalling a fresh new OS is too much to resolve this kind of problem but yeah i will try to flush it first. If dont work i guess i have no choice (crossed fingers)

did you install anything prior to things not working right? if yes try uninstalling it. you also have the system restore points you can revert back to so you don't have to reload the os

but you can still navigate to other sites correct? Did you install the latest version of the browser? Updated security patches in Windows? Other than the basic windows firewall are you running any type of filter like OpenDNS?

Yup, i can still navigate other sites and browser is updated. Hmm, its been a while the last time i did windows update/security patches. Windows firewall is always off and i dont use any antivirus. im not sure whats that filter/OpenDNS thing, im not that techy.

I'd try clearing temporary files and browser history in your internet explorer. I'd also be concerned about a virus if it were my computer with no protection of an antivirus at all.

Did you try the DNS flush? The problem for me has been stupid Facebook wanting to link to STR and corrupting certain URLs in the DNS cache. Also delete browsing history under internet options on all your browsers. Clear all your temp files on your computer type %temp% into run and hit delete key. Some files that are not in use will not be deleted so just skip those files when asked. These are a few simple steps everyone should due monthly to keep windows running fast. For virus Windows Defender seems to do a good job if kept updated.
