I don't like to count whoop-dee-doos because in the absence of friction you can coast to the top of the next bump. That's not really climbing.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. And sometimes click on MathCad.

Note to Edge users: Garmin has improved their mount. The new mount is one piece instead of the two pieces that cracked so easily. The tab that used to break so easily is about 50% thicker.

I called for a warranty replacement and got it for free.

Picture for comparison: See the crack?

Garmin 305 error code in Geoladders

    Geoladders Windows Error Code 6:
Can anybody tell me what this error is when trying to download a route to my Garmin 305 or better yet how to fix it.. Yes the software is current. There are 9 routes saved on the 305. Problem is the routes don't download yet it takes on of the 5 free downloads for the month.

I asked this in a seperate thread but it appears the experts are in this one.

So does anyone know how to get to the Secret Satellite / Position screen. This is not the simple Sat Acquisition screen that comes up at boot up. It has about 20 pieces of information about location, error etc. I got it again yesterday on accident and I am not sure how I did it.

Abui... do you know how to get to this?

Its just a curiosity thing ... I will try again today and post if I figure out the pattern.

Like the dumbshit I am, I keep leaving my garmin on when I put my bike in my SUV. Does anyone know how I can edit this part out of my Garmin and also edit my ride on Garmins website?

I never seem to get lost, and always guestimate my climbs/distance. I try to be within 10% but normally get much closer than that. At one time I carried a spedo, and I had one with an altimeter as well. They all broke. I sharpened my skills this week in the fresh snow on a hike. I looked at the kiosk and picked a trail & followed it for a few miles. It seemed to meander so I did a cross country back. Very cool sharpening those skills and a bit thrilling doing dead reckoning. This did not help you with the Garmin so in the end I failed, sorry dude.

Get TopoFusion a free GPS tool. You can download the ride to your PC and delete the SUV points. Save it as a gpx file. Garmin asks for a manual upload if it can't find your 305 (which you've disconnected).

You can edit the SUV section with Dreamweaver or any HTML editor, open the file and delete the offending section then SAVE; do not Save AS, only SAVE. Then re-upload

    Garmin Edge 305 problems, Grrrrrr

My Garmin edge (mounted on the handlebars very securely) most recently seems to be shutting off a couple of time during my ride. The battery is fully charged, the history is clear. I'm able to keep the distance and time, but I lose my calories burned and whatever distance for however long it was off.
WHAT IS GOING ON??? Anyone else have the same problems?
Could there be electro magnetic interference from the Edison towers at The Oaks that is causing it??
    Thanks
    Rich:-k

The problem is poor contact with the battery. Here's a fix. All I had to do was to put in an extra spacer (cut from a patch). Soldering was not necessary.

If you use the heart rate monitor it is much more accurate.

    Garmin HRM

My HRM on my Edge 305 has been acting up the last month and giving me sporadic readings (50bpm-215bpm during a steady fireroad climb). Last week it was reading 40bpm-60bpm during the entire ride at Oaks and half of the time had no reading. The battery has been replaced and no changes (actually gotten worse after every use). Does this mean that my HRM (chest strap) is dead and need to be replaced? Has anyone ever had to replace one? I have had mine for about 2 years now. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks!

I am curious to know also. Mine acts up when it is cold and I ride fast.

For instance, I was coasting downhill on my ride into work this morning and my HR was 256.

It seems to only happen when it is cold, though, and it only started happening maybe 2 or 3 months ago. I got my strap when I bought my edge 305 about 3 years ago, upgraded to the edge 500, but still use the same strap. I made the upgrade close to about 6 or 7 months ago.

Mine started this too, I'm almost certain it just needs a new battery. I keep meaning to take it into Radio Shack and pop one in.

Mine has always given me bogus readings on windy downhills, typically 250-300 bpm. I figured this had to do with some interference with the wind getting between my skin and the strap. Doesn't usually happen if I have a wind stopping layer on.

One trick is to reverse the polarity of the battery when installing a new one. Hold it in the wrong way for 5-10 seconds and it will reset the HR transmitter. Then put the battery in the right way and re-pair with your Garmin. When I upgraded from the 305 to 500 and used the same strap, this helped fixed some issues I was having.

Otherwise basic stuff like make sure you wet the contacts before wearing (spit or water work), and make sure the strap is tight enough that it's not moving around and has good steady contact with your skin.

I've been using the same strap for almost 4 years now.
