The California Department of Parks and Recreation announced the temporary closure of Point Mugu State Park. The park closure began on Dec. 17 and will remain effective through Jan 12, 2015 at 12 p.m. The closure is a result of the recent storms and is in place to provide for the security, safeguarding and preservation of resources throughout all of the backcountry trails and areas of Point Mugu State Park by allowing staff to properly assess and clean/repair storm related damage. Violators who are found in the area are subject to arrest. Happy Trespassers will.
Yesterday A few buds went hiking into the park and were busted on their way back out near the big BB climb. They were hiking so they used the parallel trail. They were caught and harassed as urban warriors. They kept saying there was no signage, the ranger finally let them go with a warning. There were no signs because you start on National Park land then cross into the state park".
The park said they will open the backcountry sometime next week. Access only via the National Park Rancho Satiwa land at the top of the BB PCH access will be closed. Hikers cannot access PCH at La Jolla canyon as well. It will be nice in there since all participants must enter and exit via the BB. I would recommend Guad and Backbone via Two foxes Happy Big Sycamore trails
