its a bit out of $3000. MSRP on this is $3900 but you cannot go wrong with this bike. You can find it for $3500 if you ask some shops. it comes with a double up front and a chain guide, x0 rear D, command seatpost that you can change on the fly with 3 different settings (all the way up, mid and completely down). 160mm of travel in the front that can lock out to almost zero compression.

I got this (barely) used last year for $3000 and love it. It handles more than I am willing to give it. 24.5 LBS + 5.25" travel = :bang::bang::bang:

If you are on a budget, get a Heckler if not, a Nomad. Pretty simple really, just go Santa Cruz:)

At your 3K range, I'd look at Kona, Giant, or keep an eye on Chainlove. I see Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC's frames go for less than $900. If you can get one of these, I'd get on it. Handmade frames from Canada. They will climb, decend, and jump well. If a used bike is fine, any of the bikes mentioned with 6+" of travel would fit your need. I would add, +1 on the Nomad it's a great bike.

Canfield Brothers is blowing out their last version "The One" frames for $1,200. 7" or 8" adjustable and the suspension is sick. I built one for a friend and the sus is awesome - especially at that price point.

As for myself, my FR/AM is a Knolly DT, which I believe you can find on blow out now for $1,900. It doesn't climb as well as the ONE, but it does feel more burly (although I just cracked the chain stay on the Knolly).

I am not a spechi guy but they got it right this time with the new enduro.
Double ring in the front and slack 66 or 67 HA. The thing is like perfect.

Holding out for the new Canefield One or Homer RFX if it is truly not s___ canned due to cost.

Knolly Delirium! Be the first 'round here to ride a helluva bike... Or Knolly Endorphin if you want to climb more.. I 2nd the Yeti ASR7 if you want to go big and climb. There's a nice white large with Hammerschmidt waiting for you at Revo in Dana Point. OK - all of these are a little above your $3000 threshold. Have fun shopping. Let us know what you get.

You definitely have to throw the Heckler in there. Reasonable price and you can kit it out with some top notch parts and still maintain your budget.
