Has anyone invented a rear coilover air shock with the best of both worlds?

I was skeptical about the CCDBAir on my DH bike after coming off a Fox DHX 5.0 on both my V-10 and my 303R, Surprisingly, the rear of my Podium with the CCDBa is even more plush than my two coils. I suspect it would be even better with a coil CCDB. Partly the bike design, but credit to the Cane Creek air shock.

The RS Boxxer WC Air on the other hand, not so great.

On a trail bike, I think air is the way to go. Yes coil has that buttery feel on small chatter, but the weight really is an issue. Some air forks and shocks are really, really good.

    Foes had the Curnutt.

I agree that coil shocks work the best but for ease of tuning it's hard to beat air. I've had my fair share of coil shocks and it's kinda a pain in the a$$ to change out the coil. Plus, to buy different a coil every time my weight fluctuated is kinda costly.

If you mean a "tweener" version, I haven't seen any air/coil hybrids in rear shocks, but plenty of them in forks. Looks like they exist in the 4x4 world though, but I wouldn't say they have the "best" of both worlds.

Seems like this thread should have been titled "Crappy Suspension for AM/DH Riding."
Is anyone trying to make the case that coil designs are a better all-around solution for the majority of trail and XC riders?

I agree with Gabe but I feel the same for the front end too. Every new air fork I've been on makes me feel like I want to run straight out the front door.

My fox stuff is complete crap, but I'm stuck since the shock size is odd and the front is non-tapered.

Over winter break it's going to Craig - maybe sooner. Tempted to go with a Marz 380 - but I ran out of spare $1500 bills.

Hey Chris! Ya want to use this 14 pound boat anchor of a fork? I just finished it for a client who is doing a resto or an early 2000 dh bike. it's a Zokes Monster Triple. You can bulldoze lippy ramps with it :)

Thanks. Looks awesome! It weighs as much as the rest of my bike.

And for the record, I haven't described a jump as "lippy" since last summer (unless for comedic effect).

Yeah. Don't think you have. Since you were considering a 380, I thought I offer you the use of another Zokes that can double as a backhoe :) I didn't even know that a fork this heavy could be made, without comedic effect.
