    Here's a little more post-CC follow-up:

    1) The small poison oak spot on my right arm is now in full bloom! Thank you, Holy Jim!

    2) All the pre-CC riding/training as well as the CC itself left me in a pretty decent state of tune. Last night after work I rode at Aliso and set a new personal best time of 18:08 from bottom of Mathis to the benches at Top of the World, beating my previous best by over a minute.

    3) The long rides ain't stoppin. I have the Palm Canyon epic on my agenda for this weekend. Gotta get it done (second time this year) before it becomes hotter than 40 hells out there :)

We usually do list the top 3 finishers in each event for both male and female.

I didn't see the board this year.....I was out at the front of the Finish chute yelling out everybody's name as they came through.

We used to recognize the top finishers at O'Niel Park at the end of the event and have the top finishers wait around.....but for them the wait could be upwards of 5 hours for the last finishers to come through. It would not be fair to have a "ceremony" where top finishers were recognized before the last riders come in. Remember.....the 1st rider to finish is treated just as equal to the rider that comes in last.

What an offer, two of my most favorite guys!!!! I mentioned it to Rog last night and he did not confirm or deny his desire. Maybe if I tell him I will be riding with "other men" he might be motivated to join me??? :?:

Nancy if you sign up for CC I will ride with you!

EDIT: to answer your question... I obviously can't speak for anyone else :) I think that people like to push themselves to the "brink" and see what they are made of. I know when I completed CC I was one of the last finishers. My finishing time was utterly irrelevant. I didn't really have the faintest clue that people went out every year and raced the events for a time and I didn't care. My goal was to get my Coup feather with Justin and Annie.

I think we liked the "training" time also. Justin and I put in our biggest and longest rides (sometimes we were out in the mountains for 8-10 hours on a Saturday) to date just trying to get physically and mentally prepared to complete the ride under the cut-off times.

The camaraderie is greater in the middle and back of the pack as well. I remember chatting with a lot of the other participants throughout the day, and I remember Justin, always a switchback or two ahead of me cheering me on to continue, and waiting for me when I had to stop.

As for how to convince yourself? Remember Ride Across the Sky? "You're better than you think you are, and you can do more than you think you can."

I get to the peak ~ 40 minutes faster in the Traverse vs. VQ. The Traverse pace is much faster than VQ due to it being shorter, so maybe estimate a 35 minute advantage vs. CC. From the Peak to the finish, the Traverse takes about 50 minutes longer, so you're looking at the Traverse time being ~ 15-20 minutes longer than CC. The above time gaps are assuming a ~ 5 hour CC and a 5:15 Traverse.

the Traverse seems to take most about 15-20min longer than the CC. For me it was not having a long rest down the motorway and going into some steep climbs from the top of the motorway to 4 corners. Also temps will be hotter than the CC. When they add Upper Holy Jim in 2011 (at least that's what WS says)...it will put it right in between the CC and VQ.

Sorry about that, I had to leave the course around 2:30pm to get back home so couldn't stay longer. Plus I left my house at 4:30am so the wife wouldn't be too happy if I stayed longer :).
