Work is underway to replace the bridge from Coyote Run Trail to Wood Canyon Trail that was washed out during the 2010 winter storms.

Last year SHARE Mountain Bike Club was awarded a generous grant from our friends at REI, which then was used to purchase the bridge materials.

The work will be done in phases over the next few weeks; currently we're working on reinforcing the creek bank to prevent the bridge from washing away again.

Aliso & Wood Canyons Bridge Project - UPDATE - NEED VOLUNTEERS THIS SUN FEB 12!

The work on the bridge project is progressing well.

But, we need your help this Sunday February 12.

We'll be placing the 24' long bridge beams. It will require a lot of hands since we're estimating they weigh 800 lb each (!), we'll need about 20 - 25 hardy souls.

We're meeting at the Aliso Woods Ranger station around 8:00 AM, then riding up to the bridge site to start work at 9:00 AM. Bring your work gloves and be prepared to get your shoes muddy in the creek bed, or bring some rubber boots.

Hopefully it won't take more than an hour, after that you are welcome to stay and continue with the bridge build or go for a ride in the park.

    Thanks!

We need volunteers this Sunday February 12!

8 AM at the Aliso & Wood Canyons ranger station, we'll start working at 9 AM at the bridge site, Wood Canyon Trail & Coyote Run Trail.

Without an able-bodied crew of 20 - 25 folks we won't be able to place the large & rather heavy beams and continue with the bridge build.

    Thanks!

I'm in, and trying to get my cuz (a young noob clyde) to come along. Hit/cleaned/cleared the skinny for probably the last time today. There were 3-4 trucks headed up the canyon as I was heading out 9am.

Is an 8" wide, 8' long plank in a creek-bed really a skinny? I'd say no, but I enjoyed hitting it for the past year anyway, except the one time that it flipped up vertical while I was crossing (it rotated 90* making it a 1.5" skinny and sending me diving for the bank). I spent about 20 minutes re-seating the plank that day to stabilize it.

I can't make it out there this morning, but many thanks to those who do. I will miss the little ditch crossing, but I suppose a bridge is more in line with the intent of the trail, and its typical users.

The bridge is looking great guys! I've passed by it several times over the past week and it looks better and better every time.

My wide DH bars are looking a little scared though!

    It's a winner!

I wanted to say thanks for the bridge. It survived the latest rains and looks like it will be solid as a rock for some time to come.

As fun as the plank crossing was, it got pretty sketchy at times and moved around, as herzalot notes above. I really appreciate that the new bridge even has some flow to it.
