Not even close. Power Post had a dropping seat post back in the late nineties early 2000's. Then it was Maverick (which was licensed by CB) then Gravity Dropper.

I was aware of the Power post it came out in the early 90's, but never really thought of it as a collapsible seatpost, although it kinda did, thought it was a little over complicated. Gravity Dropper was the first of the modern dropping seatpost, followed by Maverick ( bought by Crank Bros.) To be technical, HiteRite was the first in 1982.

Bought one a few months ago, had problems, had to have the cable replaced and the unit bled. Works great now!

Yeah from what I read the first units had a bad cable on them. Rockshox has fixed the problem now. I made sure the one I bought had the new cable on it and it works awesome

still haven't gotten to really test it on the trail, but i tried to get it to move side to side and wasn't able to. i do notice some up and down play though. not much though. maybe about 1/4- 1/2 an inch.

Sounds like your seat rail clamp on the post is loose. Check your bolts out, also that could be the seat flexing! Mine has Zero play in any direction.

As for left to right play there also should be none. I crashed once and had some play(the seat could completely spin in circles.) Upon further inspection the seat rail clamp part is threaded into the moving part of the post. So I put some locktite on it and problem solved!

Good to see you're at it again, Jeff.

Once you have some lab time in on the new ones, us frame guys would love to get some numbers together detailing functional reliability and durability under load at slack angles. Just when we thought we had made some good progress with suspension geometry, 29" wheels came along and blew our uninterrupted seattubes to smithereens, and here we are with binding and grinding seatpost pistons at 55 deg angles and crap (grumble grumble grumble)...

Ideally, someone someday would make a large OD hard chromed steel model for heavy use applications.

Regardless, looking forward to getting my hands on your telescopic shaft.
    (oh no i didn't)

...still have a hite-rite somewhere. And an IRD remote unit as well, cause, well, i'm geeky like that.

Is the play at the seat clamp or with the telescoping?

telescoping. i'll confirm when i get a chance. i noticed it when i raise it all the way up. bump the seat a bit and it pops up a little more. then when fully raised i sit on it and after a little bit it will drop down a little. it doesn't happen all the time though.

Could be a cable tension issue.

Agree. sounds like too much cable tension. make sure there is a little cable play.

It shouldn't go down at all when riding, but I know with mine, when it is down and I go to lift up the bike from the seat, it raises a little and then goes back to it's original position. Doesn't affect performance though.

i agree. i'll have to play with mine to see i can reproduce it consistantly. don't get me wrong though it doesn't drop until it bottoms out. once it drops its pretty much stays there until the next time i raise or lower it.
