I'm available weekday mornings starting about 9:00AM and weekends starting... as early as you want to go. I have a pretty flexible schedule. I like Sunday mornings for longer rides just because I can hit the trails earlier... but I have done some decent rides mid-week. Some days I can be the only car in the upper Trabuco Canyon parking lot :) Mid-week is also good for popular trails like San Juan because you can do an out-and-back without worrying about shuttle riders.

Let me know - I'm game for anything!

One way I made friends was attending races such as OTH (over now but there are others). There you race against people in your age bracket and fitness level. You'll find yourself playing leapfrog with a few contenders each race which makes a nice conversation piece afterwards. Boom, friends made your age your level.

Track down The O'Show! O'mara is a beast, he is in your area, and rides mega miles daily.

Please point out the obvious. I'm still a newb around here, so forgive me if I fail to see the obvious. FWIW, I catch on quick.

Enjoy the desert and best wishes settling in. Living next to elevation is great, just drive up to where the weather is good. So much in proximity, great location. We'll holler before next Palm Canyon run when it cools down. :)

I'll have to see if I can ring up one of my buddies to come along on that ride - it is definitely on my bucket list. We're supposed to go bikepacking on Catalina when the weather breaks, and that would be a good time to spring the idea of the Palm Canyon ride on him :) That's a good Jan/Feb trail, isn't it? Or do you wait until March/April for the flowers?

Riding with people makes you faster & push your skills harder, & for that I like it. However, I personally do not enjoy spending time around aggressive and competitive people, which rather eliminates most cyclists right off the bat.

I think I would like riding with cyclists a lot more if the cyclists in question weren't cyclists.

As you can tell I haven't found a solution for this dilemma either yet.

Strangely, I haven't had this problem - at least not with the cyclists I hang with. I think you eliminate a lot of problems right off the bat if you say you are into "exploring" and "discovering new trails" and "sightseeing" versus "spanking everyone else on the trail". I used to ride with a guy who was too competitive. I just don't ride with him anymore. It's all good - he has found other competitive people to hang with. I still like to push myself - but my competition is on the inside. If I am biking with someone else, it is all about how to have the best experience - not whether or not I am going to "win". If we are BOTH going fast - that is the best of both worlds. Maybe I'm just not fast enough to be competitive, LOL!

OK, will work something out. Maybe Sunday morning.
I agree with Grego about racing and meeting people. Also, group and social rides. I'll be at the Path/Cismontane ride tonight.
