yes sir, I noticed the weight gain as soon as I was on the road 120mi a week with very little climbing. Now that I am back in the dirt with more climbing less mileage there has been about a 5lb drop, but im not sure if its the riding regimine or the new protein powder I recently switched back to Pro5. I was just drinking muscle milk because it was cheap, but now im back on the good stuff though.

I lost 45 lbs (220 lbs to 175 lbs) in the last 2 years since I started riding and eating less ice-cream at night...:)
Everything looks pretty good, except I have some left over belly fat... maybe 3/4" thick.
Any good suggestion how to get rid of it ? Bike riding (MTB and road) doesn't seem to take care of it.

I can't claim to be an expert on the subject and have always carried a little belly fat, even at my leanest, but have you tried adding a little resistance training?

Doing high reps, low to moderate weight (i.e. dumbbells) and maybe some body-weight exercises like push ups, pull ups, sit ups / crunches, etc. should add some lean muscle mass to your body and crank up your metabolism another level.

I know P90X and Insanity have worked for a lot of guys. I did Power 90, the precursor to P90X, with my wife a couple years ago and it worked great and was much less of a time commitment as P90X. I still do the ab workout routine--20 reps of 10 different crunches.

I think if you did some push ups, ab crunches, pull ups and 5 or so weight exercises, you'd notice a big difference for a small investment in time.

My life is too busy to devote to P90X and still get in my rides, but I can squeeze in some push ups, pull ups and abs right when I wake up or before I go to bed pretty easily.

Oh yeah--diet matters, including what you drink... I've learned that I can go on really long rides and pack the calories back in after if I don't watch what I eat and drink. Especially when you're 40+

    50+ here...:)
Looks like a sound advise.. I used to do the suggested routine in the past, but somehow dropped it from my schedule.
    Time to start again...
    Thanks for your advise.

Well I have been off & on my bike for about 3 months. Really bummed that I didn't make my goal for 2012 to be down to 200lbs but after seeing the Dr. he informed me that I have lost 30 lbs in 2012. That really made my day/year! Looks like my issues over that past 3 months have turned into having surgery on Jan 30th and then I will kick off 2013 with more riding again. In the mean time I will take shorter rides and continue to watch my intake. Very glad to hear that there will be a 2013 Weight Loss Challenge!!! It really has helped me stay focus. Thanks Dino for all your efforts & taking this on year after year!!!!
