zman did you try the Giant website? I got my info from there. Go to owners manuals at bottom of front page then click on Maestro Suspension Set Up all the info you need is there. I have a 2008 Reign O and Shock: eye to eye length is 7.875"(200mm) and Shock Travel of 2.00"(51mm).

Also do not add or reduce shock length that will mess up the whole geometry of the bike.

It will definitely change the geometry, but it won't necessarily mess it up. Many bikes are way more fun when "short shocked".

If you're switching air shocks, try to be careful removing the bushings from your old shock and putting them in the new one. The metal is pretty soft and it's pretty easy to mark them. If you're switching to a coil... Well, I'm not quite sure if they mount the same, so good luck haha.

I use 7.785X2.25 with good results on my 05 & 08 reign, adds a little more rear travel. I likem softer in the rear...

hes trying to make a 6" travel bike into the 6.7" reignX or SX. ive also heard all it is is a different shock. the frame is the same between the 2 models. i also have a reign1 and would love to switch to a 36 talas upfront over the 32 float and also switch to a dhx5.0 out back. let me know what you figure out. id take .7 more inches of travel anyday if it doesnt affect the bike. i assume its just find the length of the reignX or SX shock and use that.

I would say the triangles may be the same but the links are going to be different so it's not just out a new shock on a reign to make it a reign x.

Also I believe the rear triangle has a bit more clearance... not completely sure though. For sure the upper Rockers are Not the same!

been looking at them side by side and they appear to be different. i think you guys are onto something. so the only difference between the 2 models is the fork/shock and pivot link?

Isn't the geo a bit slacker/more agressive on the reign X?
