OK thanks, I dont think I will use a flask as I usually mix it up between gels and blocks. As for the bottles my only concern is from Mill Creek to the next rest stop (if it is hot). But i was todl they leave water bottle packs on the side of the road.

So with all this talk of Jack Rabbit, is two tubes enough for the entire route?

For the last few years, there has been a truck just past the Forest Falls turnoff with water. Filling up there will get you to Angeleus Oaks.

I ride with folks who drink a lot of water and they have never run out using two bottles. I use one and have plenty left. 2 tubes should work but bring a patch kit just in case.

Chris, I don't care for those soft gel holders. It's still hard to get the Gu out.

I tested the soft gel flask out the other day on the mountain bike and thought it worked great. I very much prefer it over the hard plastic ones. What makes the soft ones difficult is the bite valve, but if you can deal with the gel coming out a bit slower, then you don't have to worry.

My favorite gel flavor is chocolate and the chocolates are usually so thick that you just can not get it out of those hard flasks, but with the soft one, it comes out fine.

i was looking over the 2010 results and noticed quite a few people got tagged with a "penalty"...whats the main reason on this ride to get a penalty and what exactly is the penalty?

So are people bringing the suggested clothing in the last BA email or do you think short sleeves and fingerless gloves will be fine?

    Shorts

Short bibs, short sleeve jersey, wont bring arm warmers, wont bring leg warmers, wont bring wind vest. Will wear half finger gloves. If you get to the top and are cold, find a branch from a tree to fit in your jersey to block the wind (I heard they used to stuff newspapers in their jerseys back in the days), it might work.

Weather for my zip code says sunny with a high of 87 tomorrow. That means it is going to be hot climbing oak glen and damnation alley. Big bear says a high of 67 tomorrow. I rode this morning with short sleeves/bibs and it was upper 50s and I was fine. So, I'd say short everything will be fine.

    Timing Penalty

The penalty is forgetting to check in back at the park where you started the ride. They just want to be sure everyone made if off the hill ok. It doesn't affect your time. Swing by and give them your name before you eat.

So now that BA is over Painfreak made mention to additional "fun" rides. Is there going to be a new thread for such rides? I was thinking about an easy ride up Baldy road to Icehosue parking lot on Saturday, going to be cold, maybe farther maybe not. We should also have a ride to Hwy 2 up 39, the ride that didnt happen.

I for sure want the KOM jeryse So I am planning on doing all 3 rides next year and from the looks of it the last one should be easy.
