Since a few of us on STR are signed up for Breathless Agony and/or other King of the Mountains rides, I thought I'd start a thread to post weekend training rides.

Looking at the weekend of February 5/6 for the next big ride. Options as follows:
    1) 80-100 mile, 9,000-10,000' climbing loop starting from Upland/Claremont/Glendora, riding a combination of GMR, GRR, East Fork, HWY 39, Baldy Rd. Exact route TBD but plenty of options up there.

    2) 115 mile, 10-12,000' climbing loop from Upland up HWY 39 to HWY 2, through Wrightwood, and down Cajon Pass back to Upland.

    3) Dawn to Dusk 160+. This is a ride put on by a friend starting/ending in Ojai. 160+ miles with 8,000' climbing. February 6 at 7am. More info here.
If you are interested, please post your date preference (Feb 5/6) and which ride you'd prefer. If we have any snow storms between now and Feb 5/6, mountain roads might be out of the question and we'll go to Ojai.

    Lesser Mortal Rides too!

I am looking for some buds to pre-ride Hwy 38 (pass 3 and 4).

My training is more modest and at the moment I am thinking if I can complete the 3-pass option I will be very happy, but perhaps the 4-pass option is do-able if I can ride enough over the next couple of months.

I'm currently between jobs, so can do it on a weekday.

    jeff-

I'm racing feb 5 so I prefer feb 6 if that works for you and others who may join. for some reason, drawn to option 2, but any of the three would be interesting. are there roads to get us down from cajon without using i-15?

Grant - I think you may be referring to HWY 38 out of Mentone (which is actually part of Breathless Agony). HWY 39 goes up to Crystal Lake from Azusa... another good climbing road. I'll plan some rides for HWY 38/Oak Glen area later on this winter. Unfortunately my schedule only allows for these rides on the weekend.

T - you have to ride 1.5 miles on I-15 from HWY 138 to Old Route 66 at Cleghorn Rd. Unfortunately this is the only way to do it and stay on pavement. Although it's busy, I-15 has a very wide shoulder at that point, and it's all downhill, so it's a quick 5 minutes. Bikes are also legally allowed on I-15 from Oak Hill up top down to Cleghorn. More than worth it to make the loop.

Thanks for the invite Jeff - I can only do all day rides every other weekend. This coming Saturday is good (and every 2nd week forward) but Feb 5/6 is weekend when I have my kids.

This Saturday I'll either do an all day dirt ride (Leona Divide) or road ride from Palmdale to Wrightwood area and back, unless something more interesting comes up.

Well two weeks ago I got back into the swing of things so I did a moderate 64 mile ride (3000ft). Last week I did a little more difficault 85 miles ride (5000ft). Next week I plan on doing the GMR to Baldy village and above (never been above the vilalge, 6500ft). The week you are discuessing I am doing a mock 2 pass ride (kind of), OakGlen and then Forest Falls and then back over Crafton Hills (55 miles, 7500ft). Here is the link. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Yucaipa-Hill-Training The following week I am doing the Palm Springs Century. I wouldnt mind company on my Yucaipa ride. I am not quite ready for the above rides but will be soon.

P.S. I can only ride on the weekends.

Those aren't training rides Jeff, that is worse then the ride itself, lol. Kind of already started some training on base miles this past weekend and was looking to start some climbing Sunday. We are doing the GMR/GRR route. I'm going to have to work up to your rides though as that's to aggressive for these old muscles. But depending on the dates I'd love to do these with you guys. The 1st ride I can do and the same with the second ride. I'd also like to do Lesper4 's ride. I was also planning on doing some of the 39 to Crystal Lake and maybe beyond but I'm open to whatever you want to do.

Well, I'll be checking out the 330 in a few days and it's closed to traffic. I'll post up here and let folks know what I find out.

    1.2 or 1.5... i'm lucky to get in 300,000 ft of gain in a year. That's 2 x 3000ft elevation gain rides a week 52 weeks straight.

Abui, you ride Sycamor Canyon out there ever? Where do you ride in T.O.?

When the snow and ice goes away, I'll race you to the lifts by this route!

And RE route 2: If you go counterclockwise, there's more watering holes. Even McD's at 15 & 138.
