Sorry guys-- retypo-- I misplaced this intro thread and ended up replying to someone elses intro vs. starting a new one. Just wanted to maintain order in the universe.. :?:

Aloha STR! Just wanted to register, chime in and say "hi." I've been really digging this site lately. STR is a great resource for us local mtb types and newbs. I've been lurking for a month now and it seems that this site has a positive group of knowledgeable members and like I mentioned.. an awesome local resource.. Kudos and props to STR!

I'm new to the whole MTB scene (started late last summer) and I'm really enjoying the experience and the people you meet on the trail that have the passion for this sport/hobby? Although, F-Loop should be my local trail, this newb has yet to experience it. I wouldve tried to hit it this weekend if there wasnt a forecast for rain. But, I've been mainly riding peters, santiago and aliso since its my buddies local trail. But I'm sure the list of local trails will get longer as I put in my time.

At this point, conditioning, familiarity, knowledge of my equipment and surroundings has been my focal point and has proved to enhance the "experience" for me.

It's been a 2-wheel rennaissance for this former 1980s BMXer/neighborhood Freerider and father of 3 boys. It has definitely brought out the Pee-Wee Herman love for my bike again and the wannabe Evil Kneival(sp?) in me.

I'm currently on a G Fisher- after riding a Trek HT for my initial enty level rides. Man, the possible component upgrades you can do seems endles$ and ongoing.. Just to see how much bike tech has come along has really impressed me. But the sticker price on them initially left me shocked. Of course, the more you know.. you end up paying it anyway.. or at least that is my conclusion..

Again-- just wanted to say "aloha!" to my socal trail riding brethren and give props to this site and the good folks that contribute to it. I look forward to your posts and events. Ride ON!

    Peace all!

:welcome: from Claremont. I think I need to do a search of this site to see how many times Evel Knievel has been mentioned. I didnt realize just how big an impact he had on those of us who grew up when he was doing his thing.

:welcome: from another local 80s era BMXer! (from Buena Park) I was a BMXer through the late 70s and into the 80s, and then I picked up mountain biking in the mid 90s - and you're right...it's like reliving your childhood all over again.

Were you local back then, and if so, did you ever ride at Parks in Fullerton back in the day?

The hills of Monterey Park and the berms of Azusa is where it all started for this kid. It was definitely "good times" back in the day.. I feel ya, 2wheel. Other than surfing.. mtbiking has got me hooked.

We'll see how I feel when this not so young man really eats it on the trail. #-o

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! I look forward to hooking up with some of you locals.

So, where do I get my free shirt for signing up again? :)

Speaking from experience after a bad wreck (I'm 40), if you do take a bad fall and get injured, the first thought may be think is that it's time to give up. After you're part way better, you'll be itching to get back on the trail. For those who do give up entirely, for the rest of their lives, they're secretly wishing they hadn't.

I guess I can see speaking from experience twice. I stopped racing BMX when I was 17 after a bad crash when I was 16 where I broke my wrist, fractured my neck, and tore off my ear. For years, I wanted to ride, but I was afraid. When I was in my mid 20s, I vowed not to live my life based on fear, and that's when I picked up mountain biking.

In 2006, I had a bad moto crash that caused the doctor to say that I shouldn't ride again - there are too many risks if I fall on my wrist (it's still messed up). But I said that I wouldn't live in fear, so I got back to riding (moto and mtb). In 2007, I started racing DH, and in 2008 I started racing 4X and BMX. Granted, I do have some pesky issues with some injuries that I'm living with that won't go away, but damn it, I love to ride!

Welcome back! And get those three boys of yours our riding!
