    SPECIALIZED ROCKHOPPER COMP STOLEN!!!
Please keep your eyes peeled for a Navy Blue/Charcoal 2010 Specialized Rockhopper Comp mountain bike on Craigslist or elsewhere. It is my son's bike that he uses as a commuter bike to high school and for mountain biking on the weekends. It was stolen from Westcliff Plaza in Newport Beach on Friday, May 16. The thieves cut the bike lock and stole the bike and his helmet and left the lock. We've already called the police. Here is some additional details: Size XL, 26 inch wheels/tires, M4 alloy frame (has a "M4" sticker on the frame), RockShox Dart 3 SL fork, 24 speed, SRAM shifters/derailleurs, SRAM Avid mechanical disc brakes, Forte adjustable riser stem, black seat, and toe clip pedals. I'm attaching a picture of it from Specialized's website as well as a recent picture from a ride to Aliso & Wood Canyon. Hope it turns up.

I have posted this on the Orange County Craigslist as stolen. If you have other bike groups and shops you can post this to, we'd be very appreciative. Thanks so much!

Bike was found in Moreno Valley. Whoo-hoo!

Sucks Mark. Looks like a great bike.

FYI, here is a good CL search aggregator that lets you search nationwide: http://www.searchtempest.com/

The perp was probably a local bike shop owner hoping you'd buy your son a new 29er or 650b with hydraulic brakes and a 10 speed cassette--they'd be the most likely to gain from this senseless crime...

That'd be great if I was the one buying. My boy saved up for months until he was able to afford this last year. He scored a deal on Craigslist last year and nabbed it for $300. We thought it was stolen but the owner had the owner's manual, transfer of ownership forms, etc. My son and I are really pissed off.

This is why STR has issues...kinda with Maxwell - time to move on...

FWIW, my LBS ... the owners, employees, mechanics are some of my best friends, greatest inspirations and motivators and all around spectacular contributors to the community. I bribe them with homemade treats and cool brews regularly to ensure I stay on their good side.

comment may have been made in jest...my feeling is 'sad'.....

Yes, my comment was made "in jest". Sorry if I offended you. With all due respect, I think you need to lighten up a bit...

Sucks that your son got his bike stolen regardless of the cost, a hard earned $300 is the same as a hard earned $7500...and Julie, don't sweat the April babies rolling the short wheelbase.

Words....sticks and stones... Bruises and cuts heal, inner doubt and low self confidence from verbal cuts can stick for lifetime. Lighten up? --- it wasn't a hit to me, but to people I utterly respect and I'm just adding my point of view, so...maybe, you might -- lighten up.

To say things in jest that are disrespectful, especially to such a core to this sport??? If it's in your heart, it comes out of your mouth...I choose to hang with people who are uplifting, encouraging, and have nothing but respect for others.

This is the internet - tone and inflection are not part of the game...words, they're all you have -- please choose wisely.

My apologies for the thread derail - to the op, that is so sad that your son worked so hard and earned his bike. I will keep an eye out for it! Hoping that he can get back to rolling again soon. Such a hard lesson...

Bikes come with owner's manual? I've never had the luxury of buying new bikes so I didn't know this. I have always purchased used bikes.

    Bummer........

Hate to hear things like this especially when the kid paid for it himself.

I don't know if a $300 bike would show up on Craig's list or be parted out.

    Good luck!

I'm impressed that your son worked for this bike, and I'm impressed that you didn't simply give him a bike. Bravo to you for instilling values, Marc.

I hope the bike is recovered. If not, I can donate some used (not thrashed) parts toward a new build, if that's a viable direction. I have 2 x 10 shifters, 11-36 cassette, f/r derailleurs, seat, pedals, 650b tires. I'm sure others have parts lying around that could serve as a reward for an honest kid who works hard for his own stuff.

    Power on...

I have elixir 3 or maybe 5 brakes. Sram x7 front shifter and derailleur. They are all in working condition. For free99.

I've got a XL Specialized Hardrock (about 3 years old) collecting dust. It has V brakes, which suck, but has mounting posts for disc brakes. It needs tires (and the brake upgrade) and its ready to go. Take Von's (from above) brakes and my Hardrock, and hopefully someone else chimes in with a couple 26" tires, and your son is good to go.

Way to step up, you guys. That's community. Makes me glad to be among the users here.

Revalimage, don't count STR out yet! Spartan as the participation may be, I've seen loads of goodwill and generosity from very many here. Cheers :)

I don't have 2 - but I do have one Maxxis Highroller 26" (2.35) tire you can have free

It is used, but has quite a bit of life left in it, and would at least get you started

I'll buy the other tire to repent for my sins...

Revalimage, you need to turn that frown upside down...

Wow! I am utterly speechless. I will gladly take you all up on your offers. This sounds like a fun bike build too. I actually have a couple of old 26" rims and we had just bought a new 26" tire before his bike was stolen. Please feel free to give me a call and I can come to you as well. Marc 949-500-0281 Cell.

And jae2460, I laughed after your comment. No harm done on my end.
