I currently have the Fox RP23 on my 08 Yeti 575 and im looking to move to the Fox DHX 5.0 with coil over. I have looked everywhere for the size needed. Anyone have an idea of the size if this rear shock?
According to Yeti's website, you can't use a coil shock on the 575. Not sure if it's the size or what. :?: http://www.yeticycles.com/#/ourrides/575 Click on the FAQS section.
Thats sad news. I know that a guy at The Bike Company has a coil on his but he might have done some fabrication.
From Yeti: "No. The 575 can only fit air shocks. The Fox DHX air is an option for the 575 and is a nice mix between traditional air shock and a coil shock." If you are looking for something a bit plusher but still an air shock, perhaps the Marz Roco Air could be an option? They feel almost exactly like the Roco coil.
PM Hezalot He just took off his rp23 and installed a DHX 5.0 And yes, it is 7.875x2 Keep in mind that the stock shock is tuned to the 575. The DHX will have to be adjusted for max effect. And I love my 575.... Check this thread; http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/market-place/25887-fs-2007-fox-dhx-air-5-0-7-875-x-2-a.html
probably. you can see if these fit w/ a coil shock. i bought a set when i changed a shock on my old bike. now if you are a warrantee junkie, I reckon Yeti will not give u credit if anything back there cracks, but if youre too fat and a coil is the only solution go for it http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/18...ng-Kits/2009-Fox-Rear-Shock-Hardware-Kits.htm
Hey Jake, I talked to our engineer about the coil versus an air shock on the 575. Simply, the 575 was designed around the leverage ratios of the air shock. Even if the coil shock physically fits, the ride will totally change and frankly, not be good at all. probably has something to do with rebound. every air shock bike that I have owned had a way slower rebound than a coil, even if you adjusted the air shock to the fastest rebound setting-- its still like molasses in comparison. therefore this 575 bike was designed with a slower rebound in mind. my kona stinky air and a regular kona stinky has the same frame yet one comes with an air shock and both are interchangeable. i guess the engineers thought it was ok thinking it didn't change the ride characteristics much....but you know something, it does. the stinky air rebounds much slower than the coil version even if the setting is at the quickest rebound. (I have the coil clicked on the 9th click--which is around medium) maybe if you changed the setting on a coil to a slower rebound, the ride characteristics may not change... and you can still be 250 lbs and ride the bike and not bottom out on it. plus using a 600-700lb spring will help. i could be wrong but its worth giving a try if you are a big rider. however again your warrantee will be void if thats a big factor.
Are you listening, other bike brands? Notice how quickly Yeti responded to a customer's question. I love my 575. I weigh 210 and I replaced my RP23 with the 5.0 DHX Air (thanks, Tani). I like the DHX a little better, but not $450 better. Send your RP23 to PUSH industries, and you may get the results you are looking for. If you are over 230 lbs, then, you might pursue going beyond what Yeti recommends, but look at your carbon rear "pivots." Not sure they were built for that. What fork or you running? If you do not have a Fox36, Marz 55 or a Lyric, change that first. It makes a HUGE difference, and the bike is built for it.
