dude! thanks for making me more "F"-ing depressed than i already was. So what am I? I have more money in my bikes than in my car by far, yet I am not even a weekend warrior  the only road trip I have planned is to do what "the man" tells me

I used to ride an Intense 6.6 for almost a year and now ride a Reign. Some have said WTF am I doing or am I crazy for downgrading. I didnt feel like it was an downgrade at all. I am not about the boutique bike but just like what others have said ride what feels right. I am not putting down Intense, Turner, or any other boutique bike. I just chose to ride what works best for me.

Oh btw:steppie: is not a snob, hes actually one cool misguided dood.;)

I could be wrong on this but isnt Sette price points house brand? Quality control could be an issue also. I remember back in the day when the old Iron Horse frames paint would chip off if you looked at it the wrong way.

I always wondered about the Sette frames on PricePoint too.

My LBS had a Sette bike in for a tune-up a few weeks ago. It looked OK, but was a friggin' brick and actually clanked and flexed when you rode it. It felt and rode like a cheap bike.

I would NEVER buy one after that experience.

    Speedgoat rocks!

Speedgoat is going to be one of our dealers soon. They gave us a great review on the speedgoat site.
    They love the XCL.
Always look at your options and read reviews those people have tried the bikes and will give you some feedback.
Remember its your life on the line. If you ride a bike that is unsafe just to save a buck it will cost you in the end. At least invest in health insurance.
BTW I have a load invested into mine and Willies bikes we just love them. Riding is a way of life and building bikes is a form of art.

    That is right Rob.

I didn't want to say it but yeah the frames are just a pre made frame that they put a name on and sell . No R&D Really the only thing that Sette has to do with it is pointing it out and ordering it out of a catalog.

There is nothing wrong with borrowing a Taiwanese factory to speed up production of your own design like Santa Cruz ,Yeti and many others do. To pic a generic frame and put your name on it is kinda effortless.
Sometimes they think they can fool the consumer.
    Sometimes they do.
The frames that make a difference are better by design.
That is my .02 then again what do I know.

Thanks everyone for your great input, as I stated earlier, I was planning to get a Giant R1, and just wanted to keep an open mind...I did end up emailing Sette to get a background on a builder but got very little in return:

    My email:
Hi I have read your site and myspace but it doesn't say much about your designs and engineering back ground? how did you get started making bikes? did you work for a bigger company then decide to leave? how are the bikes made? are they hand made in th eUS or mass produced in China? Im just trynig to gauge if I should take a chance on buying a frame from you guys. a little bit about your background would help a lot.

    Thai

    Their response:

Thank you for your email. Pricepoint.com is our exclusive online retailer and they have carried our products for years as they do other quality products. Our frames are superb. You can check the warrany information via Price Point and feel secure about what you purchase.

I say buy a bike that you like, if it breaks then you replace it with a better one. I never let money govern my purchase, I let my own riding abilities do that.

Sette is one of a few bike retailers that is attempting to cut out the middle man, and sell direct to consumer via the internet. There was an interesting article in Dirtrag about them and few others (such as the super Misfit Psycles) in Dirt Rag around a year ago.

Personally, I don't drive a BMW, wear Fox products or subscibe to Mountain Bike Action. Why? I think its easy to get caught up in the marketing hype, and start to think "I have to get those new servo wave-ds horst link-scandium-wicking-valves, or I might as well quit riding". Are Turners good bikes? I"m sure thier awesome, but I've never ridden one. Are they that much different than my Reign? Who knows. In other words, buy something, be happy with it and just ride!

thanks guys again at the end of the day I do feel that the R1 is the best bang for the buck, and seems to be a great ride, at least I was impressed when I rode one...and will be on one, unless the Kona blows me away...I just didn't want to over look anything...
