I think the finish is closer to the elementary school. There is an entrance to O'Neil there and that is where I thought it ended. Your picture is more the park entrance.

Brett - the red on the left is where the WS usually gathers after events for the BBQs, awards... so maybe here?

This is my first time racing CC and I'm a bit confused on the finish. When I read the WS website I see the following description of the finish:

    6. Trabuco Creek Road to finish line at the intersection of Trabuco Canyon Road: 4 mostly
flat miles on a dirt road.
    7. After you reach the finish line you will ride 4 mostly flat miles on a dirt road back to the staging
area at O'Neill Park. Then there is the following additional description:

You will then go down the Holy Jim Trail to the finish line at the intersection of Trabuco Creek Road and Trabuco Canyon Road. NOTE: You must make sure the Aid Station records your number before continuing on. Finishing times will be posted after the event and will be mailed to you at a later date.

This leads me to believe that the finish is at the same area as Jordansrealm showed in his map above. I don't see anything stating that the finish line is now in Oneil Park. It looks like Oneil is just the staging area and awards area, but not the finish line. Am I missing something?

From the WS email participants receive:

We moved the finish line venue to within the park so it would be safer for family and friends waiting to celebrate your finish. We are hoping that the families will enjoy the beauty of O’Neil Park. There is a great playground and Nature Center for the families to enjoy during the day.

The finish area will be just past the equestrian arena, not where we have the usually set up after the event.

Jordan, the "racers" will not be charging that fast to cross the street. I'm told they will cross the creek 1st then cross on the Rose Cantina side. If you've seen the creek, they won't be charging through that. Jason explained why it moved from the end of TCR to O'Neill this year. With the amount of spectators we get coming out, TCR was no longer ideal. Just as having it finish in Holy Jim parking lot was no longer ideal.

We've done tweaks to this event every year. From starting times to adding another cutoff at 4 Corners and HJ lot to adding 15min to the WHT cutoff. Nothing is really etched in stone. If this works out, the Traverse finish line will also be moved.

You should have received an email last week from the WS that stated:

    Changes to event this year:
    1. Finish line has moved to within O’Neil Park.
    2. Wristbands will be placed on participants at check in
    3. Awards not be given immediately upon finish

PM me your email and I'll send you that announcement email when I get back from picking up my packet.

Trust me, you'll know where the finish is when you get there. There will be people telling you to turn, or cones, or flags, or something to direct you those last 60-120 seconds.

Actually about 1/2" above "Rd" in Trabuco Canyon Rd.......towards Rose Canyon.

About 1/2 way between Trabuco Elem. School & "Trabuco Canyon Rd" on the map.

We are going to be in what is considered the Hickey Group Area on the O'Neil map:

In case you didn't get the latest email from the WS, here it is:

    It’s Pow Wow Time !!!

Check your emails & Warriorssociety.org…they are full of the MOST UP TO
    DATE information regarding the event.

    Changes to event this year:
    1. Finish line has moved to within O’Neil Park.
    2. Wristbands will be placed on participants at check in
    3. Awards not be given immediately upon finish

O’Neill Park is NOT open at 5:00 am so plan on leaving your car at Blackstar or having someone drop you off at the start. Carpooling is recommended.

Check in will start at 5:00 am. You will be receiving a wristband at this time that you must wear during the event. Once checked in, you will not be allowed to leave the staging area. Only registered riders with number plates will be allowed past this check-point to the start line area. This is a closed course event and only registered riders and support personnel will be allowed on course.

Event Starts promptly at 5:30 am with a mass start from the gate on Blackstar Canyon. SMALL COMMUTER LIGHT RECOMMENDED.

Blackstar Canyon Road has had extreme damage done from all the rains. Be extremely cautious riding up the road as there are wash outs that you will need to walk thru and narrow passage areas with deep ruts.

BE AWARE WHEN COMING DOWN THE DIRT FIRE ROAD FROM HOLY JIM TO THE END OF TRABUCO CREEK ROAD. THE ROAD IS OPEN TO TRAFFIC AND YOU WILL HAVE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. LOTS OF VEHICLES WILL BE COMING UP THE ROAD AT YOU SO STAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Stay on event course at all times, even as you approach the finishing area. Should you cut course or are found disobeying the trail markers you will be given a DNF for your time.

There are checkpoints along the course so you will be tracked as to your location on the course throughout the day.

    Cut off Times: Vision Quest
#1 9:30 am Aid Station#1, bottom of Motorway

    #2 11:30 am, Four Corners
#3 12:00 pm, Aid Station #2, Holy Jim parking lot
#4 12:45 pm, Bottom of West Horse Theif

    Counting Coup
#1 9:30 am, Aid Station #1, bottom of Motorway

    #2 11:30 am, Four Corners

If you do not make the cut off time your number plate will be removed and you will not be allowed to continue. You will be directed back down Maple Springs or Trabuco Creek Road depending on which cut off you miss.

AID STATION 2 BAGS – If you want to bring your own supplies to Aid Station 2, we must be able to throw way any left over contents and the bag they are in. All bags will be thrown away after the event. No Aid Station bags, disposable or not, will be taken to Aid Station 1. Your Aid Station 2 bag must be dropped off at the check-in table at 5:00am.

Food and Water will ONLY BE PROVIDED AT Aid Station 1 & 2…that means you need to carry enough water and food to sustain you until you hit Aid Station 1 & 2. There will be water, bananas, oranges, and snacks.

The finish line is located within O’Neil Park, 1/2 mile past the end of Trabuco/Live Oak crossing. Look for cones and lots of cheering friends! You will be riding across the creek/wash at the end of Trabuco. Then stopping with a crossing guard until advised to safely cross Live Oak. Cars will not be stopped for you. You must stop for the cars. Once across the street you will ride the dirt path along the south side of the road ½ mile to your finish line within O’Neil Park. You must cross the finish line with a number plate in order to have your time recorded.

Finishing Feathers will be handed out at awards announcements throughout the day. Verification of completion of all checkpoints will be done before your award is handed to you. Make sure you pick up your finishing feather before leaving the event. We will not be mailing feathers to finishers You must get it at the event.

El Pollo Loco will be supplying a full meal for you at the finish line beginning at 12:00pm. You must show your wristband to receive your meal. Food will be served throughout the day to all participants.

Shuttles will be provided starting at 1pm from the finish line venue back to Blackstar until we get everyone back to their vehicles.

Parking is limited with in O’Neil Park. Parking will be available in the day use area of the park for $5 per car. The day use parking is approximately ½ mile from the venue area. If you choose to have friends or family attending the event have them park legally if they park on Trabuco Creek Road, Trabuco Oaks Road or Rose Canyon. There is no parking allowed on Live Oak.

We moved the finish line venue to within the park so it would be safer for family and friends waiting to celebrate your finish. We are hoping that the families will enjoy the beauty of O’Neil Park. There is a great playground and Nature Center for the families to enjoy during the day.

This is what you have trained for all year, your moment has arrived. Stay focused, stay hydrated, stay well fueled and we will see you at the finish line! At the end you will know why this event is considered one of the toughest mountain bike events in North America. You will never look at the Santa Ana Mountains the same again and you will cherish your finishing feather like no other award!

Just a few notes, from years past:

    1) The cut off times are the cut off times. Don't count on them moving for any delays, such as mud, late start, mechanicals, crowded aid stations, etc.

    2) If you get to a cut off close to the cut off time and want to take a break, you may want to ride a bit more before sitting. Some of the volunteers get a bit anxious or nervous if you stay at the aid station longer than the cut off time; some will try to talk you out of riding on.

    3) If you do not make it up to Beeks by 0830am and weren't delayed simply due to a major mechanical because you usually ride as fast as Manny, you will not make it to the cut-off. It is probably best that you train a bit more prior to continuing on the course.

    4) Carry lube and maybe a toothbrush if there is mud/water on the course and you're not on a SS.

    5) DO NOT LITTER, or you will be sacrificed to the trail gods. A few seconds to tuck your Gu wrapper under your shorts, in your back pocket, or back into your pack is not going to have a massive effect on your finish time, unless you're Manny.

    6) Thank the volunteers, they're out there just as long as you, but don't get to ride. They do it out of a love for the sport, the event, and the Warriors.

    7) There are several volunteers who have medical training/experience, heed their advice. To avoid some issues, be sure to start your hydration now. It has been cold, until this week, so it's easy to start the ride a bit dehydrated--not a good thing on a long ride.

    8) This is a timed event, not a race, enjoy it and smile at least once during the event. This is FUN pain. :)

4 Corners is not an official aid station.

There is usually some water there.....but it is more for emergencies. You should really plan on carrying enough water to get you from Aid Station 1(bottom of Motorway) up an over the Peak to Aid Station 2 at Holy Jim Parking Lot.

It's still a valid question. There has been a mini aid station at 4-corners. Probably not an official aid station, but they did provide water.

Does anyone want to try to form a group at the beginning so that we can try and pace each other? I am getting really nervous about this event now and know I will need some encouragement at several spots throughout the day. I am hoping to finish in 6:30 if I have an awesome day, 7 hours if I don't do as well as I have dreamed about.

you will be 100% fine. the ONLY advice that I can tell you regarding pace is that ITS NOT A RACE TO THE TOP OF BLACKSTAR/BEEKS. If you get to Beeks and you're worried that you didnt push it hard enough, that's perfect.

I promise you that you'll be passing peer-pressured quick starters left and right on your way to motorway.
