Am I crazy to think I could do the loop after the rain we had? Just started riding over, more concerned about the entrance and how nasty it might be.
Whiting will be closed for a few days due to the rains. The Luge holds up pretty well to the rains, so you shouldn't have much of a problem there. I'm not a fan of Whiting even 3 days after a rain. The trail that leads to Mustard has a lot of sand. Wet tires, kicks up that sand and throws it into the gearing/chain. Dirt is not a problem to me, but sand can really foul up your drivetrain.
Whiting can stay quite nasty for some time after rains. The first half is pretty shady, so it takes a while for it to drain out and dry out. I have been on it a week after a heavy rain and it was still pretty muddy out. I guess it depends on the weather following the storm.
try here Friday afternoon: http://www.ocparks.com/whitingranch/ or better yet, call them (949)923-2245
My friend from out of town rode the Luge today and ran into a Mountainlion right by the Flag. They had a stare down for about 10 seconds, and my friend made loud noises. The lion eventually disappeared behind rocks. Don't ride alone!!
Isn't this where someone says... I don't need to ride faster than the mountain lion... I just have to ride faster than you.
The web site says they are closed but I called and they said they are open. And I'm here right now about to start.
Just finished and conditions were great! My time was 1:53 from car wash to car wash. No kitties seen at the flag pole.
