How are you inquiring? Via the e-mail link or via PM. I have a bike for sale on the classifides and have not been able to check my work e-mail (where the inquiries go)but I can get PM's on this site. I would try both ways to make sure the seller gets your inquiry.

I do not respond to email inquiries (spam / I have no idea who the buyers are...)
I state in my ads if someone wants to contact me they can do so via PRIVATE MESSAGE!

Not sure why others won't respond to your inquiries... Those are my reasons!

I'm using the contact seller link. I guess I can try PM. Man I missed the old market place. I bought really good deals back then.

because it posts in a messages tab that no one checks.

Not sure why 'CONTACT SELLER' button doesnt lead to a private message?

I'm the worst at this, but honestly, I just don't feel the need to a lot of times. It's my item, selling at my convenience, I think I get to make the calls. So far it's has worked as everything has sold at my asking price.

Don't expect a response, this isn't a professional business for most on here. I think Abui is still thinking he should be entitled to my wheelset.

All 4 messages people have left there, I haven't seen until much later. If there's a way to get a notification on this please let me know.

After I posted a couple forks for sale, I was wondering why I didn't receive any inquiries via PM. A few days later, I checked my e-mail and there were a few inquiries (one from England and one from South Africa). I never check that e-mail account, and I actually can't access it from work. I really wish the "contact seller" went to PM, so I can access it any time. I don't normally check my home e-mail account because I don't use that for communication, so I never expected to receive an e-mail from an inquiry. Yeah, I'm a newb to the classifieds here. I miss the old Marketplace. There aren't any buyers reviewing the Classifieds, it seems.

EDIT: There are also messages in my SPAM box! The "Contact Seller" button is lame!

Here's one example why a seller might not respond. It's regarding a frame I posted for sale, everything being asked here is already on the ad:

    "
Q#1. How long have you owned it?
Q#2. a) Have you owned it from new? b) If not how many previous owner?
Q#3. Why are you selling it?
Q#4. In your opinion, what sort of condition is it?
    Q#5. Any available photos?
Q#6. How much are you asking for it?

    "

    ???

Ideally the seller would be able to choose whether they want the "contact seller" button to go to e-mail or pm. As it is now, it only goes to e-mail (the one you listed when you signed up with STR - you can change it if you like). If you're interested in selling your item check your e-mails, if not, don't.

The current classifieds reach a much larger audience than the old forum based Marketplace. Personally, I've had great success selling in the new Classifieds vs. the old Marketplace. Prospective buyers responding to the ads must register on STR to contact the seller. That weeds out most of the scammers but not all. We usually catch them and delete them within 24 hours but they can still get their messages out in that time. The scammer's messages are easy to spot. Just delete their e-mails or have fun with them. It's certainly no worse than craigslist.

As a seller, I am still sticking with ebay. The fees are a kick in the nuts, but the people you reach is amazing. The majority of retro BMX and MTB stuff I have sold in the last year is all going to, primarily, Australia and New Zealand and some to Europe. I guess the dollar is stronger over there and shipping, smallish items, in a flat rate box can go anywhere in the world for under $14.

As far as STR classifieds go, I've only bought but have dealt with top notch folks everytime.

In theory I could make the contact seller link go to a new PM for that seller. What do you guys think? Better? Worse? Meh?

I think it would be for the better. I think one of the benefits of going to PM is that the seller should still receive an e-mail indicating that they received a PM, so essentially they get two notifications: a PM here as well as an e-mail notification.

I think a PM would be better too. That way at least you have some sort of idea who is trying to contact you (screenname on STR) vs. trying to figure out who [email protected] is.

Good point. Although I'm a newbie seller on the classifieds, I've been wondering who I'm getting these e-mails from.
