presently i use: on my Epic: specialized 2.0 roll-x race tires (stock) both front and rear, great traction on solid to semi loose terrain, hard cornering on hard pack or rocky terrain i notice the knobbies give way. i run my tires with 50 psi front, 45 psi rear (i hate pinch flats, and i like the tires to feel predictable) on my GT hardtail: front: i have an old school Onza Racing Porc 1.95, this tire grips very well anywhere, i love it. rear, i have an old school Panaracer Smoke 2.1 i love the way this tire grips when it climbs and the way i can carve any trail and it won't slip this combo has made me feel very confident on my bike
best tire so far i like. wtb weirwolfs 2.30 front ahd back out of...lets see...out of five other sets.
On my current ride.....SC Chameleon, I run 2.1 Exiwolf front and 2.1 Nanoraptor rear. So far have found this combination to hook up in all conditions. mtnbikej
The 2.4 Race version should weigh in under 600g. Never ran one up front. Only used as a rear tire and was not all that impressed with it. Lots of volume, but the small knobs seemed to fold over and wear pretty quick. I find that the 2.24 Mutanoraptor is a better rear tire. mtnbikej
Got a 2.1 weirwolf race today. Getting a 2.4 mutano rapter probly tomorrow. Bret, how come you run your weirwolf backwards in the rear? Better traction? Does that affect rolling resistance or anything else?
Running the rear Weirwolf backwards will give you better climbing traction, you shouldn't notice any difference in rolling resistance.
I have that same setup on my NRS now. I got the 2.1 weirwolfs in the rear and 2.4 mutanos in the front. Its working really great. I have them pointed forwards and they still have great traction. Im thinking about getting another 2.1 weirwolf in the front also.
What Rob said, I look to him for bike maintenence advice, he is the man. Right now I have my 2.3 Weirwolf up front with my 2.1 Kenda Klaw on the rear. It worked pretty good on the Maple Springs ride. Im gonna leave that set up on for San Juan this weekend too.
