What shock do you run on your Knolly Podium?

My own Podium is arriving tomorrow. The shock on it is a Progressive Suspension Fifth element that's been modded by Avalanche for a 120-160 pound person. To send it in for service means a retune and a rebuild. I don't have a nitrogen charge kit as yet, so I can't really work on it.

Given that I need to spend 150 bucks on a 10 year old shock, I'm thinking I may be better off buying a Rockshox Vivid coil or Fox RC4 or CCDB. I am inclined towards the Vivid due it's serviceability, and that I already ride one and its been reliable and plush.

What shock are you running on your Podium and how do you like it? Any opinions on the Fifth Element shock would be appreciated.

I have a Cane Creek DB Coil on my Podium and love it.. I am still not convinced I have it dialed right as it has a lot of tuning options/tweaks but it's plush

Is losing weight until you fall into that 120-160 lb weight range an option? It won't cost you anything and will make you ride faster.

P.s. I bought my bike used and the shock was tuned for someone 190lb plus... I gained 25 lbs just so I can utilize all that travel.

Gaining weight is 20x easier for me than losing it. It took me 3 years to lose 5 pounds :) The next 5 has been elusive.

CCDB coil is the right way to go, I would say. I am running a CCDBa on mine and am blown away by the performance of the rear of the bike. It doesn't have that satisfying damp thud when you pick it up and drop it on its wheels like a coil does, but dayumm, is it plush on the nasty stuff. I can only imagine the CCDB coil is even better.

Post in the Knolly forum of MTBR if you still want info. TONS of discussion about shocks for Podiums (or is it Podia) in there! Sounds like you made your decision though. Can't wait to ride with you and your Pinkie Pie!

    Thanks for the feedback Chris!

Unless the CCDBa is markedly better, I do like the fact that I don't check anything on the dh bike except chain lubrication and tire pressure before a ride. I'm a bit of a detail whore, and anything air has me checking each time I take the bike out. I dont even use tubeless on the dh bike just because I know I'll be checking the sealant before every trip.

Yeah I did. Running a base tune. It sounds a little squishy, but I hear that's normal.

Did you ever take out your new rig? I can't keep up with your rides/injury timeline. Were you riding your knew Knolly when you busted yer foot landing to flat?

Not yet. The ccdb was sent to garage works for a check up, and ended getting a new shaft and complete rebuild. I was supposed to go to Big Bear today, but a party last night ended way later than planned :(

Livin' the life, trying to be Ratboy!!! Do you have a black eye from last night's party? I'll go with you to try out that new (to you) bike. I wouldn't zero in on your new all-mountain / trailbike until you've demo'd your podium for a few days. Just sayin'
