Sullivan Canyon reopened more than a week ago. I rode it on Friday 11/30/12 and again this past Wednesday night. All closure signs, working crews and heavy equipment are gone. It's good to go!
How was the Canyon? I'm basically out for the balance of the year, but would be up for night rides beginning in January.
The main trail has been plowed into a dirt road, as expected. Lots more concrete mats were installed, but they're either filled in with dirt or the trail has been re-routed to run parallel to them. The optional singletracks were left untouched and are still good riding. Recent rains did not cause any significant erosion. The singletrack that runs down to Old Ranch Road took a little bit of a beating from people riding it too soon after the recent rains. It's a little bit rutted out in places but still completely rideable. Fortunately the soil there is pretty sandy and the narrow ruts round out over time.
With a little push from another member, I think it's time to get this weekly ride back up & running. I can ride most Tuesday & Thursday evenings. Let me know which day works better for you. Oh and I'm hoping to change the start time to 6pm. Obviously, we cannot accomodate everyone's schedule, I'm just trying to appease most.
I am ready when you guys are. I can not start until 7 or 7:15 but I like the challenge of trying to find you guys on the trail....sort of fox and hound style.
I'm available starting next week. 6 pm start works; Thursday is better than Tuesday. Makoto -- have you made it up to Mammoth yet this winter? I got more powder runs in one trip in December this year than I got all of last season.
