I was thinking this morning about all the great friends I've met as a result of STR and the positive lifestyle changes that resulted from it. $40 is one of the best investments I can make all year.

    Thanks George

I am still uncommitted to the idea of paying for a membership. I spend $40 to get the very same service I already get for free. It does not make much sense to me. I will say this is a great site. This became apparent on a recent trip out of state. I scoured the web looking for sites that would give me the local knowledge in those states I can count on her at home with STR. The quality of STR is unmatched. However, that quality is currently free, and there is no addition of services with a paid membership. The claimed benefits of more pm space, a doo-hickey, and less ads are negligable. I would like to see the store up and running for members. I have been a member for a couple years now and nothing has been available. There has been a flood of interest for jerseys and even a simple decal. These items are discussed yet never delivered upon. Give me something tangible and I will give you my money.

Albacore- Valid points! I do value your opinion AND your honesty!
I agree that George could do MORE (i.e. give us what we want)...

In his defense: Domain names aren't free! Switching to larger servers comes out of his pocket not ours.

Waah, some people work and are too busy to also run a fan club. There is next to no profit in jerseys, socks, and T-shirts and makers will not front the inventory ($1-4k).

Thanks to all who cough up a few bucks, and soon (one more parking ticket) I'll join the cool group.

I felt the same way and have been a member for years....I also decided that since I sell parts on this site that it wouldn't hurt to kick down some scratch to help out the guy who runs the site....I don't even come close to using the extra pm space....

As mentioned early in the thread. It's totally optional. If you feel that STR has made a positive contribution in your life and want to give back go for it. Or don't. No one will hold a grudge.

What about a free STR tshirt and stickers with the $40? Wouldn't that be an encouragement to donate?

    but where's the shirts? :D

Albacore and Drop D make great points. I don't have a business degree, so take this with a grain of salt, but if the T-Shirt & sticker weren't offered for sale, but were inlcuded as the incentive to pay $40 for a subscription, the site would see a HUGE increase in subscribers. Calculate the profit on a $10 T-Shirt and a .50 cent sticker and the initial production costs would be recuperated fairly quickly.

Took me a while to figger this whole interweb thing out and pay up...

(not really -- I'm just lame)

I've learned so much here over the past couple of years. Thanks to all for all that good info. Maybe I've even had the chance to help someone out along the way. It's all good. And it was well past time for me to pay my way.

Goodonya, George! Heilluva site; Helluva crew; Helluva new server. :)

    price drop

I'm not a marketing major, but if the yearly fee was lowered to say $15, I'd say everyone here including
those high schoolers with the awful spelling (even the
over 18 with there horrid spelling & grammar) willl contribute. Just a thought.
You'd make more money. More bandwidth. More misspelled words.

Dssgaffer is correct, I have been to several str scheduled events and no str booth or logos to promote the tribal cause. Show the people the truth about mountain biking through this site and you will increase users.

I'll just spill the beans now and say that I am planning on lowering subscription/doo-hickey price. It's also going to get an added perk soon related to a change in the way the for sale ads are handled here. And that's been your breaking news for the day :)

if you're not part of the solution...

if one of the incentives to join was to dunk their favorite mod, you'd make millions.
