Wish he had a chesty mount instead of a helmet mount. I was interested in seeing how rough the ground was in the higher speed upper section, especially after seeing all the braking bumps in one of the first bends.

When we were riding it earlier in July it was very rough.. rain has been in short supply up there lately.. as beat up as it is, he makes it look ridiculously easy..

yeah I just got back that place is BEAT. We did get rain first 3-4 days but that didn't help at all.

And I agree his speed into the trees at the bottom is crazy.

A shame that Redbull is only covering riders from beyond the wooded section's exit in the Air DH race.

    http://www.redbull.com/en/bike/stor...ch-live-fox-air-dh-at-crankworx-whistler-2013

Just watched the race. Stevie was on the gas *hard* in the final leg, with some serious determination, pedaling in places many others weren't. He was still trying to catch his breath, while chatting with Mick Hannah, who came second overall. Mick had some interesting line choice, squashing-cutting one of those jumps on the inside. Danny Hart and Brian Lopes were also hard on the gas, with Danny looking wild as usual, but they didn't seem to have that same surge, maybe in a smaller gear than what Stevie was in.

I was kinda bummed at how beat up things were but $hit happens with the weather.. beat up Whistler still kills everywhere else :)

And again the Lopes level of speed is beyond comprehension.. for anyone that has flown into that section and either clipped a tree or lost it all together in one of the MAN sized holes.. his performance is beyond stellar.. love it

especially the section where the tree is is the middle and you can go on either side.

I've never ridden that trail so I didn't know what to expect when you said "in the trees". I was afraid I would not understand what you guys were talking about, but that part is unmistakable. I'd love to see some gopro footage of more pros on some trails. That tree section looks pretty narrow and sketchy too.

I don't know Lopes as a person and only hear stories, but he is an amazing rider and I always withhold judgment until I meet a person. A guy I know is a pro strength competitor and his internet persona is far different than who he is in real life. Many people may dislike who he is based on stories or his comments, but he is really down to earth.

People have all kinds of reputations, etc. All I know is from first hand experience, when my son and I met Lopes in Laguna he could not have been cooler. We met him along with Cedric Gracia while they were doing an Oakley shoot and they were both awesome to talk to, spent time chatting with my little guy, talked trails and then posed for pics at Top of the World. This was a few yrs ago and still holds up as one of the coolest days ever for my son. Lopes also sent Ryan a few signed pics and posters which hang on his playroom wall.. so for us he was very cool and I can't say anything negative..

thats so cool that you were able to meet Lopes and Cedric- they are two of my favorite riders for a long time. Its nice to hear they were cool to your son as well. I guess you were in his backyard. And after looking at the vid- it seems like 130mm is all you really need!

It's amazing how casually he speaks during that run. If I were doing that same run it would probably take me 30+ minutes.
