I'll watch the Spring Classics (Roubaix and Ronden Vlanderen) but, after that I'm done with roadie dopers.

I blame Armstrong for a lot of the bad vibes about road cycling. He blew it up bigger than anyone I remember in my lifetime (Merckx was unseen in this country) and was literally able to print money. His team prospered, his sponsors raked - it was all golden. Now we know it was all sheit. He needs to be pilloried for the rest of active career in sports. He's a master fraud and huckster. No remorse evident from him. Just manipulating the system with his lawyers and PR people. He's worthless in my opinion.

Thanks for keeping this thread going. And has been noted before - where are all the fanboys/girls now?

Sure, but first let me say my statements were illustrative; I never really bought any products or services based on advertising (at least I don't think so...you see, that's how advertising works). I believe Nike sells substandard product, the US Postal Service is a seriously flawed business model, and I owned Trek bicycles before 98% of the population ever heard of a Lance Armstrong. I've always believed him to be guilty, but never some omnipotent ringleader of all things dope. Now, on to my explanation; These companies are going to attest that Armstrong's doping has costed them revenues (it's not going to be easy to prove). Armstrong's attorneys are going to counter that conversely, if anything, they profitted immensely from it (that will be real easy to prove). I also believe if the "plaintiffs", if you will, push too hard, Armstrong's attorneys will make a push to prove that those companies knew all along that he was dirty...and used him to sell you and me product. So it's going to boil down to whether or not the contracts have been breached (I've not read them, but semantics will play a huge part...such is the legal system). However, let's assume he has clearly breached the contracts. His attorneys will prove that they got what they paid for, which leaves only the prospect of punitive damages. Now, you will be hard pressed to find many cases where punitive damages have been awarded in contract cases. I mean rare. I negotiate contracts several times a week, and if it were black and white, I could save some money on attorneys.

Sure, there's a chance that Lance may lose to the tune of several million, but I also wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those cases where after exhaustive testimony in court, they'll find him guilty and order him to pay a dollar. It seems like USPS did just fine at the time, and I don't see how they've suffered any long-term damages.

I saw Nothing to Lose and Slaying the Badger a few month ago, and it's been bugging me. I had no issues in cheating in a sport were a majority of players were doing the same thing. But hearing Lemond, Andreu and a few others talk about how they were tortured by Armstrong, makes me sick to my stomach.

I'd rather watch highlight reels of the 1999-2005 tours than anything with Lemond in it. Yes, Armstrong was a big part of what was wrong with cycling, but I saw Slaying the Bader years ago and Lemond seems like a whiny twerp--he just doesn't inspire me at all, in the least. He seems like a bigger jerk in some ways than Armstrong, just in different ways.

I feel worse for Dave Wiens than Greg Lemond, although I doubt Wiens was harmed much by the Leadville loss to Lance. I wonder if Levi was doped up in Leadville too...probably... I have no doubt Lance was.

Saw the Contador / Froom battle in Spain the other day-that was fun to watch; I wonder if they're clean, I have doubts about Contador.
