The guy lied for years and did it pretty convincingly. Maybe he was squirming and fidgeting because he felt so uncomfortable telling the truth. He's just not used to doing it.

He made his bed, now he has to lie in it. I don't feel sorry for him, he did it to himself. He was just a better cheat.

I cringe every time he says "absolutely" in the interview. Watch the taped deposition and watch the interview. This guy is a serial liar with an unblinking stare when he is telling a lie. What he did to destroy American cycling can never be undone.

Was there such thing as American cycling before Lance????? Yes he cheated and so did everyone else.......that's like saying earth is round. We got what we wanted, 7 exciting TDF that got people glued to TV watching TDF and started riding bikes. Don't think everyone will get together and burn their bikes because of Lance admitted to cheating.

Oh and every top rider from Europe at the time got caught doping how come they didn't destroy European cycling?

    Exactly.

I didn't like him because of his personality, but he raced very well and worked very hard. Had it been an equally level field of non-dopers, I'm sure he would have still won (I didn't like the guy one bit).

Oh My God..:steppie: You and I took the same from the interviews. I knew you were a closet roadie!!
He said what he could. It was more about his remorse and mistakes and making amends.
I believe he lied in some situations. Like paying off WADA, or the UCI, back in :-k...whatever year it was to hush a drug positive.
Also, his buddy Bruneel has an arbitration coming up so there's more that can't be said.
I wish he would have mentioned the 'hospital room event' where he said he took drugs and then denied it and called Betsy a liar.
She is really hyperfocusing on that incident and it seems silly to not admit he lied..unless he's protecting the Dr.

Betsy was on Mike&Mike/Colin and yes she seemed pissed, but who wouldn't. He husband doesn't seem to care much as maybe he knew you had to dope to ride in that era and the first rule of RideClub is never talk about the club. Either way, Lance is an animal and will probably be the best rider we see in our lifetimes. His time was a great time to be a cyclist. I wish him well and only hope that another American comes along with his desire to win that transcends Armstrong and his past. Looking forward its encouraging to see so many kids at the junior and college level take up cycling.

...Greg Lemond will always be a whiner. They should go back and test his blood if they had any because I don't believe him either.

If Lance was the only guy using a banned substance, I would have an issue with it. However, this is not the case. Every competitor wants a level playing field. If a sport has a lot of drug abuse like it apparently did at the time, it should come as no surprise that the top riders are using a drug.

What hurts Lance the most is the defience and bullying. Had he told the truth years ago this would not be such a deal.

This will be my last post to this thread and probably anywhere about Lance Armstrong.

I watched the final portion of the interview tonight just now and I think I figured out some of the things that I wanted to from these interviews:

    1. How long did he dope for?

I wasn't sure, and didn't recall the testimony from the USADA report, but I thought it might turn out that he only doped for a fraction of his career. Nope. 100% since the mid 90's.

He mentioned in both nights that he didn't dope in 2009 and 2010. Back in 2009, when I learned he was coming back, it occurred to me that may be why--because he thought they had cleaned up the sport through the biological passport and he could compete clean and see if he could win that way. To come back at his age after years of retirement and get 3rd was a phenomenal achievement in my opinion, and I believe he was even better in 2010 but had disastrous luck--something that never plagued him in his career, ironically.

I would feel better if I could believe he came back clean in 2009/2010, but I couldn't find myself able to believe him. I believed much of / most of what he said in the interviews and I believe he was being truthful and sincere, mostly--but I don't believe he was telling the truth completely. And I don't think I ever could trust him. I think his statements that he was clean during his comeback were calculated and contrived, self-serving and false.

    2. Why didn't he come clean to USADA when everyone else did?

He admitted it was his defiance, ego, narcissism, etc. And a big mistake, something he will always regret.

    3. Why is he coming clean now? I thought he'd either come clean to USADA, or never.

It was because of his kids--his son was defending him. As a father, I hopefully will only have to imagine what that must have felt like, I understood why he felt like he had to come clean. And I respect that.

I hope Lance apologizes publicly and sincerely to the many people he harmed as he harmed people much more than his doping did. And that's the worst part of all of it.

I've never been able to stand Greg Lemond, he just seems like a complete whiner but he deserves a big apology from Lance and deserves some vindication. But I read comments from him last night in an article and he is finding new ways of taking his anti-Lance stance too far. I understand why he's bitter now, but he should be taking a classy upper hand and he's not. But part of my difficulty with Lemond too is that while I tend to believe Lemond when he says he didn't dope, how is that possible? Doping in the Tour de France goes back to 1903 when it was started. Racing a bike all around France for 3 weeks is tough. One stage is tough; doing it everyday for 3 weeks against the most elite riders in the world is insane. And he won the Tour 3 times and has the fastest time trial ever (over 20km) in the Tour de France, averaging 34mph--how is it that the EPO generation didn't beat that time? Maybe he's just that good...maybe...maybe not.

I believe there's an inconsistency in treatment as the other riders who testified against Lance got 6 month off-season sentences and he was banned for life, but the fact is that he didn't come clean and cooperate and does deserve a harsher punishment. And I don't think I could ever watch Lance cross a finish line again and not wonder if he was on something. Unfortunately, I do believe he should be banned from competition for life. But I hope he does work with USADA, WADA and the UCI or its successor...in doing what he can to clean up cycling for the next generation.

Lastly, the USPS was NOT harmed by Lance Armstrong so they shouldn't sue him. Same too for the Tour Down Under and Floyd Landis, neither was harmed by Armstrong. Floyd made his own bed, he should lay in it. He does deserve credit for making all of this come out in the end, but he did it (at least initially) out of spite and revenge, not any sort of noble effort.

The people who deserve financial dispensation from Lance are the people he sued, damaged or destroyed. The Andreus, Greg Lemond, The Sunday Times, Emma O'Reilly and other former employees and the company that paid him the bonus for winning the tour but had an out if he did so while doping.

And it would be nice, but probably not feasible, if they could fine Lance and all other dopers and set up a fund for clean athletes who's pay was less because of the careers of the dopers. It would be impossible to administer, but it would be nice.

I probably will, but I'm not sure how much cycling races I'm going to be watching in the future. And I'm probably not alone in that. And that's too bad. I do think the sport will suffer greatly for all of this.

But I will still ride my bike and always will. I've never raced a bike and probably never will. That's not what it's about for me.

I know this is the Internet and all, but now that Lance himself has said his behavior was ego-driven narcissistic cheating, can those that have been spraying about the term 'hater' on everyone that saw this coming clear as day...step up and admit they were wrong too?

Seriously. Lots of bluster in this thread that ended up being proven and/or disproven by direct testimony, which is what many claimed was the only thing that they would believe. Now you have it. So...?

lots of great deals on armstrong stuff

World Cycling Productions has some great deals now http://www.worldcycling.com/LANCE-ARMSTRONG-DVDs/products/593/. Too bad the only cool thing about the "Magnificent 7" was Lance cutting that switchback after Beloki's career ending crash, and you can see it anytime on youtube.

That's the one I was waiting for. When I watched his Oprah interview I wondered if he might be holding back info that he could use to try to bargain for immunity in exchange for testimony against team managers and other officials. Lance is one very high profile guy, but if the teams or racing organizations are brought into it I'd think there could be corporate deep pockets to be tapped and potential conspiracy charges.

Pretty wild to hear that Floyd Landis could end up getting up to $25M if Armstrong loses the case.
