[h=6]This is BS. What do they hope to gain by this? It isn't even relevant any longer. You don't go back to the 1995 Superbowl and change the results. You don't go back to 2004 at Wimbledom and change the results and you don't go back to 1998 World Cup and change it. This has got to stop and the USADA has lost all creditability as far as I'm concerned.[/h]

[h=2]Lance Armstrong Responds to USADA Allegation[/h] AUSTIN, TX -- June 13, 2012 -- I have been notified that USADA, an organization largely funded by taxpayer dollars but governed only by self-written rules, intends to again dredge up discredited allegations dating back more than 16 years to prevent me from competing as a triathlete and try and strip me of the seven Tour de France victories I earned. These are the very same charges and the same witnesses that the Justice Department chose not to pursue after a two-year investigation. These charges are baseless, motivated by spite and advanced through testimony bought and paid for by promises of anonymity and immunity. Although USADA alleges a wide-ranging conspiracy extended over more than 16 years, I am the only athlete it has chosen to charge. USADA’s malice, its methods, its star-chamber practices, and its decision to punish first and adjudicate later all are at odds with our ideals of fairness and fair play.
I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one. That USADA ignores this fundamental distinction and charges me instead of the admitted dopers says far more about USADA, its lack of fairness and this vendetta than it does about my guilt or innocence.

The NCAA takes away games won retroactively, just ask USC. By the way, I agree with you though.

I bet you there has to be some kind of euro influence behind it. They can't stand that an American dominated the Tour. To be honest nobody knows for sure if he was doping or not except for Lance himself. But what's the point of them even bringing it up again unless they have some ground breaking new evidence? He should be able to sue them for harassment or something if it's the same ol accusations with no new evidence.

Every year its the same thing leading up to the Tour. It will go away after the USADA gets its notoriety.

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. At this point, what's to be gained by proving it if he did? And are they going to prove it year by year for all 7 of his championships, then go back and prove that the 2nd place finishers in each of those years were also clean and worthy of the trophy?

At some point you have to accept that the system had flaws, learn from them, and just move on already.
USADA, quit wasting our time and money on this.

I'm with the 'who cares" contingent. IMHO, USADA has better things to do with our money.

Maybe so he doesn't compete in USAT and take wins from competitors if he's doping?

After a 2 year ongoing investigation... they dropped the charges. ONLY to make more allegations. I call BS Witch Hunt you can't keep going after the same guy for the same crap over and over again I don't care if they found pictures of him doing dope!?! Once your cleared/ you should be cleared! END OF STORY!!!

Horse-stuff; American-centric horse-stuff. Lemond was always well-regarded and well-liked in Europe in the '80s, despite being in direct competition with the last few French riders who were really up for winning the Tour (Hinault and Fignon). The whole the-Euros-hate-me-cos-I-beat-them-at-their-own-game schtick was never more than a marketing ploy by the OLN/Armstrong bandwagon, part of the aww-shucks Texan image designed to get American eyeballs on the screen; was never much rooted in reality.

As for this, it does seem like the guy is being tried again and again for the same crime. I'm not convinced by his innocence in all honesty, but he's been effectively tried and acquitted so many times now without result it seems about time they dropped the matter.

Agreed, but test him before & after those current events. No need to conduct an archeological dig.

Ps: captainfastrousers - props on the best user name I've seen in a long time!

All I know is I've been scolded a few times by euros telling me how Lance cheated. As if venting at me is going to change anything.
To me it's always been without proof, shut the eff up!

Plus, back when Greg Lemond raced europe didn't hate america as much

That's undoubtedly true, but then again Europe doesn't 'hate America'* now as much is it did when Armstrong was racing, so why would there still be some kind of UCI cabal on a petty mission for vengeance after the whole 'freedom fries' debacle. Especially since the last thing either the UCI or Le Tour would want is yet another embarrassing doping scandal.

Anyway, since when did any US government agency ever cave in to foreign pressure? They can't even cooperate with each other without being pointlessly awkward and difficult, never mind a foreign organization (I work for a US government agency, I can assure you of this fact).

It's a mystery to me why the USADA are doing this now of all times, but the notion that this is due to some untoward European agenda is just daft.

(* inverted commas used to emphasize the fact that Europe has never actually 'hated' America, just rather irritated by some hare-brained foreign policy)

Um.. Mexico, China? So, your saying our government agencies never play politics or do any favors even if they wanted to because they're too inept? Hmm.. who would of thunk?

It's obvious, you're whole a lot smarter than a mere simpleton like myself, so there's no point for me arguing. After all, it's not like I have any relatives that live in Europe and tell me when I come visit to say I'm Canadian so I'll be treated better because Americans are not well liked. You win!!

The top 5 finishers for all of Lance's 7 tours have been implicated in doping in some form. If you strip Lance then in all fairness strip the entire podium. To that end strip half the peloton. I say finally expose Lance for the liar he is, let him retain his victories, and move on to how we can better gauge our athletes' competitive integrity for the future. What do we gain by stripping a victory from 13 years ago?

Hmmm... A doping controversy? That must mean that the TDF is right around the corner.
