Was a pleasure riding with you guys yesterday! Aviatrix it was nice meeting you and your kids, they ROCK! Sorry I wasnt myself yesterday. I tried but it was a bit saddening knowing this was my last ride at Oaks! Surreal adventure but I wouldn't have waned to spend it any other way! Seeing the heart the kids bring to the sport is truly AMAZING! Jonathan and I will surely miss you guys!

Thanks for the great times & memories!

Thanks for the ride guys. Good luck in VA Kevin. Come ride with us again if you're ever back out this way. Jeff it's always a blast for my kids riding with your kids. I need to get my kids some protective gear now that we're shredding some more advanced trails. That and a first-aid kit is a must. I was feeling quite under-prepared with her bleeding all over and us not having even a band-aid. Nora's hand is ok, and she didn't require stitches....whew.

And David, you better bring Ava to one of these rides. Otherwise we're gonna go into Ava-withdrawl without OTH ;)

I got off late from work, so if anyone was there at 4:30, I'm sorry but we got to the trail head at 5:00. We rode Bommer to Missing Link/Fenceline and then out as fast as we could with no stopping. Here are a few pictures,

Never posted a ride before but I thought it would be cool for my son to meet some other mountain biking kids. We're planning on doing Aliso Woods or Carbon Canyon this Saturday morning. To give you an idea of our typical ride, at Aliso we ride from the church to Chula, up Chula back down through the neighborhood and coyote run on the way back to the car. My boys just turned 10 and is on the smaller side. He mainly BMX races, but we really enjoy mountain biking together so I figured I'd throw it out there and see if anyone is interested in joining us.

i might be down for this - i have 8 and 12 year olds that ride - not sure about them climbing Cholla.... Maybe they will hike up it. There are a few others here with kids that might also chime in. Never been to Carbon canyon, how is that?

Carbon Canyon is a false flat for about 6 miles to a point called Four Corners. The ride back is fun because the graded isn't very step but enough to make it a fun ride back for the kids. There are other options but this has the least amount of climbing. At Four Corners, other trails merge in they can goof off on.

I should have probably been more clear about Chula, my son doesn't make Chula in one go but does ride up it. He takes about 4 breaks on the way up. His goal eventually is to make it non-stop.

    You are where you is
looking for a few pointers here.

finally got the kiddo a bike, but the brakes are junk, so im going to swap them out for some older XTR v's and some nicer levers. done deal on that.

on page 1 a tow rope was mentioned- a length of rope with a inner tube for attaching to the kiddo's bike- could this be reversed? the thought is to be able to control the kiddo's descent down, say, the main DH fire road at Whiting. not sure on that one.

also, we switched from a SS bike with 12" wheels and a coaster brake/front caliper brake to a 20" with v-brakes only and a 5 speed grip shift. any pointers on the switch? a few times our riding on pavement alone to get her used to it?

she is fearless and learns quick, so maybe im just over-thinking all of this.
