I was in Rocky Mountain National Park last week and saw these guys!! Pretty awesome!! The coyote cruised out onto the road in front of us and then proceeded to run alongside the car for about a half mile during a snow storm. He was super chill & could careless that we where there next to him. It was cold, so I'm sure he was looking for a nice, warm place to chill.... There were about 4-6 of these big Elk just chillin on the side of the road.....these guys were big!! We also saw another 50+ in herds at various other locations in the park. Always awesome time in RMNP!!
look what i spotted today on serrano at whiting today. i was solo at the time & the a troupe guy came along & we admired them together for a few... then a ss (suicidal squirrel) ran in front of me, had to grab fist full of brakes to avoid hitting him, but no pic! edit: you can't tell here, but these are bucks. there were 4 of them. 2 on either side of the trail.
Tink - here are 3 of the four you saw, looks like you were on Live Oak? We saw these guys as we came out and made the left turn back to the cars. This is as close as they would let Phil get to them and he didn't have his other lens - (just what he needed, a few more pounds in his pack )
Forgot to mention last spring I was riding solo at Aliso and towards the upper trailhead of Coyote in the meadows before the bench I nearly ran headlong into a family of deer and a stag. All 3 gave me the big brown eyes and alert ears and slowly made their way off the trail. Probably fairly harmless but still scared the crap out of me to see a stag that close up.
We go out to Parker, AZ every year at the end July/beginning of August to play on the Colorado River. Do you ride the Indian Reservation on the California side right past the bridge into Parker? I've seen the cousins you are referring to, though they do not let you get close.
Just a little further up.... We've got a trailer at Riverland about 3 miles north of the bridge. We start heading back out at Easter (after the Q-tips have left). I usually ride until June and then give in to the heat. My normal ride takes me up to the dam and back with LOTS of side trips. There's a few small ponds on the CA side that are a short climb from the highway with a few water crossings. From last year's ride - http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/ride-reports/34353-parker-strip-rrr.html
thats not a pet..pet pigs dont grow tusk...i have a pot belly ...there great pets but can go wild after just two weeks in the wild and then they will grow tuskk to forage in the dirt for roots....
Couple from a solo run through Point Mugu State Park/Sycamore 3.8.2010 I was really surprised that I did not see very much wildlife out there. After alllllll these recent rains, I had this image in my head that it was going to be a scene from Bambi. Ya know, lil furry creatures hopping around everywhere singing copyrighted songs. I have yet to see my first bobcat out in the wild.
Point Mugu SP/Sycamore 3-21-10 Only one of the creek crossings is still flowing where we came across this pair of Mallards. (The drake is barely visible far right center hopping up on to to the rocks) We see, and certainly hear, these wild green parrots there all the time but this was the first time I had my camera ready and that the birds were close enough to get a shot! Finally! Spotted this hawk just after the parrots. He/she was perched on a branch while I got my camera out and just before I took the shot, he took off, swooped right over our heads, then landed in another tree behind us and out of sight. Kinda spooky getting to see the last thing many a mouse has seen just before... We also saw at least 7 or 8 squished toads on the fire road and I think it's because a family moved in to that house way back near the BBQ area. He (ranger) drove by us on our way out and it clicked. I was finding it difficult to believe MTBs were riding around crunching toads. Food for crows or other scavengers I suppose.:?: Still no bobcat....stay tuned. I will get that shot!
