Ok, so i've see some of the critters above, but the only one that really caught my eye was my friend, the yellow bellied marmot. They were passing my trail in Mammoth. YAY....haha.

My first reaction to this photo was that he looks like the wise old rodent high atop the mountain that you seek out to answer all life's questions! A furry lil Yoda.
    Wait....was he?

hahaha  i had the exact experience!! last summer during the fires. i was at yosemite and i decided to climb it for the first time at sunset to avoid the crowds. well as i got there i didnt know it was going to be so freakin scary. and being by myself didnt help, with the orange clouds mixed with smoke, it was unsettling to say the least.

as i climbed the cables and got to the top, freaked out of my mind because i am scared of heights, i got to the top and again i was alone. it was sobering, feeling so little and insignificant among the mighty wilderness.

so as i walk around the top of half dome, there was a marmot that was chillin in the sunset. and i said, "nice marmot"

okay so here is my critter pic. this is a prairie dog i snapped a shot last month in leadville on the upper rocky part of colombine.

    can you find him?

Marmots are so cool. We see them a lot when fishing North Lake above Bishop.

Not mine, but it's not often you see albino elk.

You can see these above Kernville and above Kennedy Meadows on bike rides. I've tried lots and lots of times, and I've never come across a digital or camera that accurately captures the color renditions that you see with the naked eye, the iridescent aspect is lacking.

Bellview Trail at Coto Stink bug. Not sure the real name.
Bell Canyon Rattlesnake would not move even when dust kick on it. :-k Tarantula somewhat evasive.
    Unknown bug. :?:

 Awesome pictures everyone. Too many to have a favorite, but I loved the bison, bobcat, and marmot.
Marmots reminds me of backpacking to Thousand Island Lakes up near Mammoth.

I did some great riding in Japan last month and I came across monkeys twice. They looked pissed! Photo is blurry, I was descending a paved road at the end of the ride.

Wild things are still out there.

Deer at Cheeseboro with a bird on her back. Maybe the bird is an early warning system.

Bobcat at Pt. Mugu (Sycamore Overlook). The bobcat ran in front of me then instead of vanishing into the bushes he turned back and clawed the dirt for a minute.

I was riding on the bike trail that runs along hwy 73 behind the fletcher jones dealership in newport beach when i noticed a sea lion on the side of the trail. There was a cop there who asked me to get off of my bike and slowly walk by the animal so I would not provoke it to attack me because the sea lion was sick.

My brother and I spotted an albino red tail hawk last year. The ranger that came up as we saw it requested we never post the pics or tell where. But some of you might know where and have seen it also.

While riding through Volcanoes NP my wife and I came across this mated pair of Hawaiian phesants.

We also had this wild turkey come visit us every morning in Kealakekua as we would hike/bike down to the bay for a morning swim.
