well, it's sorta hush and sorta not. sure, everyone knows about it, but finding it completely different. I was told by several people where it was, and it still took me a solid hour of looking to find it. and that was the entrance. don't even get me started on finding the end of the trail. friggin 12 ft drop to fireroad...

to make this random revival worthwhile, I think I'm going to go up and visit some friends/ride in a few weeks (jan 24/25 prolly). if anyone wants to come along and help with gas/company, that would be awesome. probably head up friday morning, head back sunday night. not sure about places to sleep yet, but I'll prolly crash at a friend's house if possible.

Don't live there and found it. Did not ride it, all you need to do is watch this video and you are there.

This trail is worth driving 200 miles to.

yeah, I'm gonna wait on getting an 8"+ bike for face. and a pressure suit. and some bigger balls. I don't think any video or pictures do that trail ANY justice. to be honest, that video could be way better too. gotta talk to someone like leland, baggs, or weed about that. or lancaster himself. theres still a drop, big scree chute and some super chunk before the end of the trail from the video. also a worldcup hump about 20 ft from the end/drop thing

for riding, I'm thinking of pushing up madonna and bombing rock garden once or twice, possibly shuttling morning glory, or what or pick n shovel to dairy creek. also I wanna play around on some other stuff on the grade, like firebreak, or the WOFT. friday night, I'll probably roll around with my buddies on their weekly urban ride. Also wanna hit cerro alto possibly. hear its fun

also, I take it you live up there. happen to be on the wheelmen/someone I might know? probably do if you have been there longer than this last fall

actually, the first section isn't that bad at all. steep, tight turns, then a balls out berm into a big step up (or down if someone cleared it), small double, chute, then flat until you get to the real trail

ah yeah. if you're going to poly, I HIGHLY suggest heading to a wheelmen meeting and joining up. they meet up at 8pm on wednesdays at fischer science. just look for a crapload of bikes. it's a great group of people, and they're all down to just chill, ride bikes, and occasionally have a drunken pixy bike race on a pump track.

the trail past pick and shovel is called 'what?' trail. never been on it myself, but supposed to be fun. be careful passing the signs about the marine base, they really don't like catching people on their property. not sure about the trail off of WOFT. you should go hit the road gap too (I think it's earlier in this thread). it's pretty crazy...

i'm so glad that when i went there, although i did a little riding, i played it safe and spent most of my time playing ultimate frisbee or rock climbing. i would never have survived the stuff you guys are riding now.

eh, it's all good. you gotta build up to that stupid stuff. I don't personally know anyone whose hit that road gap. it's big. and the landing is sketch.

and FYI, since the next SRC race is the 24/25th, I'll head up the following weekend (31/1)

yeah, the wheelmen is Calpoly's cycling club. cool group of people, should you head to poly for college, or even cuesta (separate team officially, but same group of people)

SRC is the southridge racing company. they do a winter series in fontana. pretty cool DH course, and a fun vibe. might be worth a drive down for at least one of them if you can manage. I'll be racing there on the 24th/25th, so I can't head up to SLO like I wanted, so I'll probably go the following weekend (the 31st/1st)

Sign the waiver, pay your entry and shuttle fee, get your wristband and off you go. For non SRC members, the cost to race DH is $35.

SRC membership is $40, and it takes $10 off each race you enter in. so to save any money, you'll need to make it to 4 races, or tack on XC, 4X, or superD to your race roster.

I suppose you do get a shirt, some grips, and a nifty yellow number plate too...

Enough of this. Both these trails do NOT need advertised group rides. That is a good way to get someone airlifted out and ruin it for everyone. I am in no way kidding. None of these pictures have shown the worst bits of either trail, and if you get yourself in over your head, you are either going to get hurt badly or have one messy hike down sliding on your ass.

A lot of people put a lot of time into these and make a lot of effort to keep them locals only or invite only, not blown out internet material. They don't need un-due attention. It's bad enough the Decline website put up the Chainsmoke vid and mentioned what the trail is called and where it is, but the LAST thing they need up there is a truckload of people being shuttled up from LA who have no clue what they are getting into. Santa Barbara already gets shuttlers from LA by the busloads who make jackasses of themselves and get themselves hurt on easy stuff, SLO does not need the same.

If you want to ride them, go ahead, but keep it quiet/private where possible. Not to single anyone out, but unless you are an expert or above DH rider, you are asking for trouble by heading down those. Again, no offense to anyone, but this is for your safety. There is lots of other GREAT riding in the area to do without tempting fate - PM me, tell me the kind of riding you're looking for, and I'll even set you in the right direction. And if you are going to do the real DH trails, ride Tower, and MASTER Tower before attempting the other. The other one has claimed a great deal of very skilled riders, and the last time I was on it there were helmet parts littering a certain section of the trail.
