isn't there a video thats shows how much those f*ckers flexed on a curb drop?

I rode a delta 7, not the stiffest bike in the world, but it's stiffer than many!

CBO has a frame hanging from the ceiling in SLO

My GT smokes your new bike

The GT in that picture looks a lot like my LTS-1 that's smokin' sport class racers on newer rigs...and those things are still around in numbers, even if the rear shock can't match up to today's tech.

Yep...I'm not at all late to this thread.

I think the Trek 3900 should be here.

Back in the day the Mtn. Cycle was a pretty descent bike. Now it's design is dated (even though I can see that it's a pretty recent build)
How lazy is Robert Reisinger of Mtn Cycle to reissue the exact same bike designs as 20 years ago.

That GT was my first full suspension bike. I cracked it as well. You made a mistake in throwing it away, GT had lifetime warranty on frames, they replaced my LTS frame with a top of the line I-Drive. What an improvement that was.

EVeryone I ever saw come through the shop rattled ,squeeked really bad and flexed like crazy. Even a couple that rarely were ridden felt like they had been ridden x,0000's of miles.

That only worked while they were in buisness. People got I-Drives, still had problems, then GT went tits-up, and people were screwed.

You are right, I did not notice he had it in 02...It was like y2k when I broke that I-Drive right as Pacific was taking over. Supergo got me one last I - Drive frame on the condition that I bought the just introduced (and relatively expensive) Fox Fork to go with the Intense Uzzi SL I already decided on buying. I ordered a medium to fit my brother in law and he still rides that frame today. I think I really lucked out with that last frame.

+1...While working through the Pacific phone lines to find out where old inventory/property rights had gone with the 90's line of GT bikes (Avalanche was my 1st, rode a Zaskar before trading it in for an LTS-1 that I still ride)...Pacific doesn't want anything to do with the old GT bikes, even though there's a whole boatload of them still being ridden out on the trails, or on the paths since parts are hard to come by. Too bad.

Yeah, that's why I always stayed away from them. That swing arm always seemed suspect to me and years ago I saw a guy snap the head tube clean off up in Mammoth.
Having said that, You have to admit that Mountain Cycle was an innovator in the sport. Supposably they're going to have a new bikes for 2011.

I saw a Nishiki Alien and the Amp bikes. Both of those were huge innovations in the bike industry.

The Alien I believe was the first mass produced elevated chain stay bike.
The Amp had a very complicated front fork it did work but was hard to maintain. The four bar Horst Link was licensed to
Specialized and used by many big names Like Turner,KHS,Ellsworth, Intense etc..

I raced a Horst Link Mongoose when they first came out. The bike did really well. I later replaced the Front shock and
kept riding that beast for years. I still have the Horst Link front shock!

My vote for one of the worst bikes was the ProFlex complete with the Girvin flex stem.
I will try and find a Picture.

Ahh yesss... the suspension stem. I'm sure there are plenty of missing teeth due to those type of stems (Girvin, Softride, Ritchey).
Almost every time I saw a guy with one of those stems I would witness a face plant. I believe it was due to when ever the bike would hit a bump the bike would stop and the bars would drop.
Hell, they even look like catapults. How any one ever thought that they would be a good idea is beyond me.

The Sling Shot from post #22 takes the cake. I remember seeing one of these around OC in the mid to late 90s. Nothing beats a mountain bike where you can get suspension parts in the fencing aisle at Home Depot. Almost as scary as riding a "Lefty" fork.

Besides the internals blowing up and not being able to get parts easily. What's so scary about a LEFTY?

The first suspension I ever rode with was the Softride Stem. I think their slogan was "suspend the bike not the rider" or something like that. It actually wasn't that bad as long as you were riding on relatively smooth fireroad or singletrack. But the minute it turned technical or downhill, it felt like you were riding with a wet noodle in your hands. That stem had a lot of flex and I only rode with it for maybe six months before upgrading to a real stem and some sweet Rock Shox Mag 21s. I actually still have that stem stored somewhere in my garage.
