Let's hope the weather doesn't stay an extra day. I guess the goal is to get the ride done before the sun hits 12.

Yes you are correct. It should read 11/1:45 on my profile cut off sheet. Thanks for catching that. I'm not in the office today to fix that so I will make a mental note. The 11:00AM time is still correct.

How does one ride The Traverse?

Totally self sufficient with fluids, food, etc.

Or bringing almost nothing, and using the aid stations to replenish?

Hey Ryan, when I did VQ I had everything on me as far as nutrition goes and relied on the aid's to refill my water. I also got some fruit and gels from the aid's also. Good luck man!!!

From what I recall, there's only 1 aid station at Four Corners. That's roughly halfway through the course, so you'll need enough fluids/food to get you through at least a couple hours.

The only aid station is at 4 corners which is 20 miles from start. You'll need enough water to get there. Don't expect water or anything at the other check points. They may have water or not. You need to be prepared to think that after 4 corners, that's all the support you'll have.

Training rides are important because you can gauge what you need for a given distance. It's going to be hot tomorrow, so I would bring plenty of water/electrolytes with you. As far as food, you'll need some calories with you to sustain yourself. Solid food like a sandwich or perpeteum/heed and gu gels, it's up to you. What did you use during training? I wouldn't try anything you haven't used already cause it could upset your stomach. #-o

I agree with these recommendations. I did this during the CC (my first one) and beat all my estimated splits and overall time. Best of luck and see you there.

Thanks for this post. I have been going back and forth whether or not to use a pack this time. Being a big roadie I have really gotten away from using a pack unless absolutely necessary. I can get about four hours without refuel but will need to reload 3 large bottle after about 4 hours. I could probably make it to 4 Corners but it might get close and leaves me with little margin of error.

I think I will use my Wingnut tomorrow. This way I can bring the solid food I want, al la BrewMaster I want to use whole foods. I will be cooking some potatoes tonight for my Race Potatoes & Lentils.

    1 Large Potato (boiled skinned)
    2 oz Lentils
    1 cup Spinach
    1/2 cup Whole Mile Yogurt
    Salt (to taste)
Bragg Liquid Aminos or Soy Sauce (to taste)

Grasshopper, I think I would thrown in a standing rib roast as well since it's going to be hot enough to cook meat. This way you'll have a whole meal at your disposal.... good luck tomorrow & I'll see you at the Lower Holy Jim/Main Divide checkpoint.

Bring lots of water. Four corners is further then you think.
Nothing but exposure for pretty much the whole course.

Then again, Tinker started with just one water bottle last year.:bang:

Traverse: shuttle back to the car ?

There will be no shuttles tomorrow to get back to the car. Would anyone like to leave their car at Oneill and have me pick them up in the morrning at Oneill park and give you a ride to Blackstar. At the end of the day, you would give us a ride back to get the car at Blackstar. Ideally, I would like to do this with someone that will finish in about 5 hours 45 minutes (+ or - 30 minutes) since neither of us would want to wait around for hours. If you're interested, please pm me with a phone number. I will check for responses tonight.

By the way, I'd pick you up between 5:45am and 6:00am so we can be at Blackstar no later than 6:15am.

Uh, are you sure on the shuttle back to the start? I thought I specifically understood there to be no shuttles from O'Neill for the start, but rides back from O'Neill after the finish to the start. Did I miss something?

There is a shuttle back to the start. There IS NOT a shuttle to the start before the race. If I remember correctly the shuttle starts around 12:00pm.

    Good luck tomorrow. Have fun.

I'd be prepared to take a little extra water just in case. I rode up to Beeks this morning and it was pretty HOT by 9:30. 8-[8-[
