I enjoyed my first short XC "race".
I didn't finish last in my group.
It got hot quickly the second time up Mathis. I love the pre 8am start.

Race Report: OC Classic Race #1 Aliso-Wood Canyon

Race #1 is in the books and I had a great time. The organizers and the volunteers did a fabulous job. The course was well marked and the on-course staff were very clear on telling the racers where to go. The turn out was great--much more than the previous years under the old ownership. I really liked the chip timing by Replay Timing--it was cool to be able to see your placing right after crossing the line. I saw a lot of old faces and met some new ones--for many, this was their first race. The competition was spirited yet friendly. A highlight was that I played cat and mouse with a fellow who caught and passed me between Mathis and Rock-it. I caught back and I was close on his wheel until I slipped and put my knee into the trail on the climb out on Coyote (ouch!). He got 150 yards ahead of me but then two guys had a mini train going and I hopped on. We caught and passed my adversary and never looked back. It felt great getting back the place that he took earlier. I met him afterwards and he's a great guy. I ended up 9th out of 15 guys in Sport 50+. The next event is at Whiting Ranch in June. See you there!

Well organized, well run. The junctions were clearly marked. My first time "racing" SS and boy did Mathis suck. LOL. Loved the encore I got on rock-it though, and since I was DFL I had the whole trail to myself. So it turned out worth the second slog up Mathis. So fun! Thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and courtesy of all the other riders.

Considering your fatbike probably weighed twice as much as anyone else's out there and a coaster brake to boot, definitely no shame in a DFL. I was surprised you got two laps on that anchor. Well done Kelly!

Thanks to all that came out! We had a blast getting this going. Hopefully our stress didn't show. lol
Our goal is to host grassroot events that are local and for everyone. While we had a great turn out of pro's like Joel Titius, Daniel Munoz, Pua Mata & Larissa Connors to name a few, we also filled a few of the sport and beginner categories. Our next race is a time trial at Whiting Ranch.
We hope to see you there!!!
    Viva la fun!!!
