No joke peeps. if you ride The Luge, Whiting or Aliso, we ALL owe Jim a HUGE debt of gratitude He has the rangers' permission and will organize and plan the appropriate work to keep these trails fun and sustainable. He will supply the shovels, picks, bars, McCleods and instruction - just e-mail him and show up, ready to work.

If you have enjoyed the 15 berms put in on Meadows in Aliso, Jim was responsible for installing those in March of 2013 with a crew of STR helpers. Notice that the berms have remained solid since then with only some braking bumps cropping up that need shaving. If you've enjoyed the bermed turns that keep us from flying off the side of the Luge, you also have Jim to thank, and notice that his methods for digging berms lasts for seasons.

Please do as instructed and don't ride The Luge until it dries, and come out to help dig. I'm in for this weekend, whether it's Luge Aliso or Whiting.

I'm actually a bit worried about a few of the stretches on STT. Some of them had some wash outs before this storm. The worst one was (I believe) just before the last 180 left towards the top of the climb. The trail may be gone now in that section.

What time is the trail work on Friday and will everyone be hiking or biking up?
There is a small section of sjt that I know Kioti and our buddy dh_gnar worked on several years ago that has really held-up. Thanks Jim!

We have trail work planned for tomorrow and Friday. If we finish the Luge tomorrow, we may work somewhere else on Friday.

Send me an email at <[email protected]> and I'll keep you posted.

6 of us worked on the Luge today. It was drying well in most spots and I'd say it's ready to ride. There are a few small changes so keep your eyes open and avoid autopilot.

Thanks for staying off it during these storms. The result is we didn't have to do a lot of run-off repair, mostly berm work and smoothing. Have fun!

Jim Thank you and all those who worked on the Luge. I rode it this morning and it is in great shape. We are lucky to have someone like you around here!

    Still Smiling

Wow, awesome work! Dropped the Luge last night and it was in the best shape it's been in quite a while. Still smiling.
Maybe feeling a little guilty for riding it so often and not doing any work on it, so I'll try to keep an eye out for future repair meetups.

Thank you all for the positive comments! It's great to hear that the work makes a difference. I've got more things I want to do on both the Luge, and the STT, so I'll post my plans and hope some of you can join me. I'd like to meet you and hear your ideas as well.

How long after rain do people suggest waiting before riding the luge?

I usually just give it a couple hours, but it can depend on how much it rains. Last week I asked people to stay off because I had just done some temporary drainage before the storm. That's all fine now, and if you can get up the STT, you can ride down the Luge without really hurting it. Sometimes bike tires actually help smooth things out.

Just rode STT to Old Camp and down the Luge this morning. Hadn't done that route in almost two years. Conditions were fantastic! In 14 years of riding the Luge this is the best I have seen it. Thanks to the people who did the trail work. You guys did a phenomenal job.

Thanks again! The Luge is so fast right now! You guys did a great job and you can carry so much more speed through the trail. I love the berm right before the little hump you have to throw a couple pedal strokes to go over. Here is Gopro run a couple days after the trail work.
