Although they have decent stock the customer service from the owner is very poor. Even though it is the closest lbs to me I will now be making Buena Park Bicycles my lbs.

Is The Cyclery the shop on Imperial and La Mirada blvd? If it is I walked in there a couple of weeks ago and thought the owner was super cool. He was even helping out an old "homeless looking"(wish I had a better way to describe her) woman fix her old rusty bike for free. I think her son ended up bringing her back in to get a full tune up.
I didn't get any work done so I can't comment on that but I spent a good 1/2 hour in there just talking about trails and riding. This had to be the most welcoming shop i have ever been in.

    What's your story?

I'm with freezy although they are not where I do all my buying I was in there a while back and they were super cool. I was just stopping in to see what all they had and got a good vibe. So what is your story? Just curious.

That's the one freezy. I don't want this to sound like a personal attack against the man but I've been stopping in since they opened and have noticed that even though I am there to buy something or have a bike serviced I get the feeling I am not welcome. I was talking with a friend last weekend and he also got the same impression. In my opinion if a customer walks in and wants to buy something you don't ignore him or hurry him up out the door...

Maybe it's a matter of appearances... I'm not sure. I went in there one time in street clothes and wasn't really taken seriously (I'm relatively young, so maybe that's why?). But another time I went in there while on a ride on my road bike and I had a great time talking to the owner about different rides (MTB and Road) and MTB racing and such.

He's a cool guy when he's friendly, but maybe he gets a lot of idiots in there that waste his time so he sometimes doesn't have too much patience? I have no idea.

I doubt its an appearance issue. I'm a (kind of :)) chubby 28yr old Mexican who walked in there wearing baggy shorts and a backwards Dodger hat and I was treated well. Most shops usually ignore me me when I walk in because I don't look like a cyclist. The only other shop I really feel welcomed at is The shop in Buena Park.

So you're saying that if I wasn't a white guy with a shaved head and tattoos I might have gotten better customer service? :-k

proraptor - I did kinda want to but that wouldn't have been very adult of me now would it.

    Either way, I'm over it.

I live walking distance from there and went in there for the first time and i thought the owner was a nice guy until he asked me what kind of bike i road, when i said (specialized) he asked why i wasnt riding a real bike like GIANT and began to bag on specialized. after listening to him bitch for not getting a giant for a few minutes i had to get out ..i wont be going there anymore.

Umm I take what I said back. I went in there today and the owner was a little too stuck on himself. I guess he was some pro dude or something idk I channeled him out after a min or two. When I told him I rode mtb he kinda thought I was joking. Lol. I can prob out climb that weinnie any day of the week. Too funny but I'm used to people not believing that I ride.

Boy you guys can really get on a roll! LOL I have been to the shop from Tune-up of my rode bike to spare tubes even if the owner was not around the guys were helpful. The owner is a racer and rider in all rights on both Road & MTB. Always found the chats with him to be helpful and seem to listen to my take on things as well. I understand from reading this and the thread about the Path bike shop that every person is different but man it can be a viscous crowd sometimes! Well there's my two cents!!! I like the bike shop and have referred local friends and those starting out in MTB & Road biking to him.

The complaint is about the customer service (or lack there of) from the owner. The employee's are totally cool.

If you have a review about this shop post it. If you want to send someone to a different shop or talk shit, take it somewhere else.

    Good Morning All,

I have known Steve since he opened "THE CYCLERY BIKE SHOP" in La Mirada about a year ago. I have spent a fair amount of time & money in his shop and have always had a great experience. Steve has been a rider and racer his whole life and bikes are his true passion. He and his staff very knowledgeable and are always willing to help you with whatever you might be looking for or need help with. I have never seen anyone in his shop be treated in any bad way or treated as if they didn't belong there. I
have always seen nothing but true professionalism from Steve and his employees. I have raced a few times with Steve and he is always 110% in his racing and his bike shop. He is "ONE OF US" with a thing for bikes and meeting great people with same common interest "CYCLING". Some of you might have had a bad experience because of who knows what, I just know Steve, and he is about trying to make all of us better informed and happier people on our bikes.

Happy trails to all.... BRAAAPP !!!!

Any shop that sells 2.5 tubes for $6 has my vote. Owner has always been helpful and polite to me.

+1 for The Cyclery. Not everyone likes to be treated the same when they walk into a bike shop. In my case, I know what I want and I prefer less service so I can get what I need and get back to riding. Some others might want to talk shop all day. I know Steve at The Cyclery and I know him to be an A++ dude who runs a super clean & honest bike shop. You can't please everyone all the time and that's just the way it is. I can't see how a good shop owner deserves to be flamed on the message boards because someone walked out one day without a warm fuzzy feeling. Just my $0.02 FWIW.

I could care less about a warm fuzzy feeling. All I want is some service when I walk in so I can go do what I gotta do...

I recently started going to this bike shop and Steve treated me well. I ordered a Cannondale bike from him and he gave me a nice deal. I have walked in on other occassions before and he always tried to help me out and also one of his employees name Tyler, both guys are friendly and helpful. I will be returning as a customer, great service

He's not a big fan of Specialized. Not a good thing to say when you bring in Specialized Bike to do service. Don't get me wrong, he's very nice guy.
