A buddy of mine turned me on to a website that combines your video cam footage with a 3D Google map that shows your location on the map as the video plays ...pretty sweet! Website is called GPS4Sport. I dig it so I thought I would share the 411.

    Here's how it works....
1 - Ride and Record Video footage. Fire up your GPS at the same time (or smarthone that records your track) and record your track.
2 - Upload your video cam footage to YouTube.
3 - Visit GPS4Sport.com and upload your GPS track (has to be a .gpx or .tcx)
4 - Copy/paste your YouTube video URL onto your new GPS track page.
5 - That's it. you can then play your video and watch your location on a map as the video plays. Looks like this.

Here's what it looks like when your done (Click on the text/link to the left... no it's not a screwball link to some lame add..it's legit)

I know that the pimp daddy contour GPS does this.. but if you don't have a pimpin' contour GPS (like me) you can pull off the same thing with a GoPro and a GPS.. or a GoPro and your smartphone (with an app that records a gps track).

Cool website. Is it just me, or does the route (red line) on the screen shot go off line and take a ridge between the bottom of the hill on STT and the flag at the top of The Luge? Maybe there's a second trail lower than the main trail that I've never seen!

Regardless - cool website. Isn't all this modern gadgetry brilliant?!!

Yeah.. I noticed the same thing with the track deviating from where Google earth shows the trail. Since the GPS isn't spot on when it is recording track coordinates and elevation (it's a consumer level GPS), it's not going to rendered in the correct spot on when Google earth overlays the GPS info onto it's map data.

Google earth has issues with 3D stuff in general.. Even when you feed it super accurate GPS data it sometimes shows stuff hovering off the ground or off to the side a bit.

Like you said though.. cool site! Will be fun to monkey around with :bang:
