Thats a clean break. I don't see much shattered pieces. Hopefully it fuses without surgery. Surgery sucks. And you don't want a plate there the next time you take a hit.

I think I see a break at the sternum. That's going to need mucho drugs. Enjoy and get well soon.

p.s. my tip to you, get off the computer and stop phuckin moving around. dont fight the pain. thats what I did, and my clavicle didnt get a chance to fuse. better to lie down semi catatonic and give it a chance to take a hold. avoid getting a plate if you can. they put a metal spreader on your chest and delt muscles to expose the clavicle. this messes those muscles up pretty bad. the bones heals but the muscles have never been the same for me.

Hmmmm. (I'm incapacitated at home right now, But...)I'd rather be on my bike than at work even now....

@bing!~ Man! I can NOT find a comfortable position. Worse night was last night. My head is clearing, though. How are they going to get the clavical close enough to bond without plates? Thanks for the reprimand. Sincerely...:)

Sleep in a recliner propped up at about a 45 degree angle.
It's the only way to take the pressure off of those fractured ribs.
You won't get a nice 7-8 hrs, but you'll get a couple, shift a little, get a couple more, etc.

When I broke my collarbone (2 clean breaks) I also fractured 4 ribs in my back.
    This is BAD experience talking...

If you sleep in a bed, sleep with you bad shoulder towards middle of bed, and sleep as close to edge as you can. To get up you lift legs, grab the side of bed with good arm , swing legs down, pull your self up using side of bed to pull body forward and do a sit up. It works great, I have had 3 broken collar bones to perfect it.

it was one of those "spots" it gives me real peace of mind as i traverse the "cell service-less" areas. My Wife got it for me for xmas a few years ago and it gives her peace of mind too.

Did you get the one where family and/or friends can track your position online?

Man that was difficult to watch. radiocraig was a lot more calm than I would've been and that's awesome. Sorry you have to go through all that pain and hope you're back on the bike as soon as the doctors say you're all good.

yes...i have the one that has 4 pre-set messages. it sends emails and texts to whoever you want. I think it was about $120 and $100 per year for the service.

I have one set as a "everythings cool"

one set as "having problems but am ok and can get out myself"

one that alerts friends and family that I am in trouble but dont need emergency assistance the "come and get me" button.

The last I call the "Oh S*+t" Button" it alerts emergency services and whoever else you want to where you are and some medical info as well.

There is also a "tracking"setting that sends a email/text every 15 min with a location.

If you ride alone at all I think it would be dumb to go into a area without cell service without it.

Mikie, road McGill yesterday and stopped at the crash spot to say a little prayer...feel better.

I feel insensitive for not focusing on Mikes injury and asking the same questions...but like grannygear I am trying to get to the cause of the accident that may help others from repeating it. To my knowledge Schwalbe 2.25 Nobby Nic is not a UST tire and a DT Swiss X1600 rims are also not UST. Is that combo approved to run tubeless? I have rolled a UST rear tire on UST rims before by running them to low. Slow leak and not check tire pressure before a ride.

    Granny / Dean,
I appreciate you guys wanting to get to the bottom of this:
2012 Yeti AS R5c came stock w/ 2.25 Nobby Nic on DT Swiss X1600 Rim Tubeless.

Tire was at 30 psi and holding well. I have replenished the sealant once by pulling the valve core and injecting it.

I have TREMENDOUS concerns about this OEM combo and was going to contact Yeti w/ my concerns for the safety of others. It is taking me forever to type this in my condition right now (Pain killer's/left hand typing).

I'm too out of it right now, but if you guys could do some research (maybe contact DT Swiss about tire compatability).

I am VERY CONCERNED....THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED!!!!

Are those the tubeless rated NN versions? Yeah...I feel the same way about being insensitive and I had a big old reply typed up on the Dirtbags group forum about the ins and outs of the current state of tubeless affairs on MTBs. Very muddy water. Then the 1000 character limit killed it.

A good combo of Tubeless Ready tire and Tubeless rated rim is a bomber combo...hard to fault. But there is so much room for error with a less than good match that one has to be careful. However, the worst crash I ever had was on tubes when a double pinch flat at speed resulted in two de-beaded tires and a total yard sale. Would not have happened on a solid tubeless set-up.

True UST is pretty much a dead end, at least in my world of 29ers. UST 'type' beaded tires that are tube-less-ready rated are very good on the correct rim, but rim and tire dimensions have enough wiggle within the specs that some combos are too tight to mount and others are too loose for comfort. Within the same garage I have boxes of very good tires, all t-l-r type and several wheel sets, but I would not combine some of them together and expect correct results, no matter what the labels say.

This really has to change as I wrote about some time ago. http://vintageone.blogspot.com/2011/04/it-shouldnt-outta-happen.html
