I got a flat this past weekend thinking it was a piece of glass sticking out of my tire. I pulled out the glass, and it didn't get all the way to the tube. When I inspected the tube, the hole was caused by a partially exposed spoke hole from the very old rim tape drifting off to the side.

I felt like I was going through a lot of patches and tubes too, but now I don't feel as bad. Hahaha Goat heads are 100x worse.

    UPDATE:
I now have over 140 miles on my stans tubeless setup using the rim strips and the latex goop.. Why in the hell did I not do this years ago? Not one flat, as my past history shows at least one flat per ride due to goatheads.
Setup was stupid easy, and the air compressor certainly helped.

That's what I wonder too about people who refuse to go tubeless. I haven't had a flat in 5 years.

No flats in a year on my Stans tubeless Crank Bros wheels/Kenda Nevegal setup. Sunday I was doing Camarillo (in LCWP) and after that rock garden hit a sharp rock hard on my front tire. A big bunch of air burst out from the rim but then it sealed right up and I finished the ride np.

I just haven't found it necessary to go tubeless yet. I probably would if I were getting as many flats as the OP.

...besides less flats, the lower rolling resistance alone is worth the change.

Glad to hear you found the way! I don't recall getting flats from goatheads in Aliso before, but I went through a similar stint from Santiago Oaks and went tubeless myself--wondered why I had waited so long. I did push it too far a couple times with tire pressure to see how low I could go or didn't top off and burped my tire a couple times in the beginning, but I'm past that now--I know what PSI works for me now--based upon my pump. I can't remember the last time I had a flat.
