Since I can no longer accept going to the Path due to shoddy mechanical work and The Bike Co also appears to have rapidly gone downhill. How about Revo? Anyone else?

My favorite mechanic is Chivo at The Path. Always takes good care of my bike and knows what bike parts work for my bike. Plus they keep really good records of what I buy and the work done on my bike. They could have tricked me as me single mom and not knowing (and no interest in knowing) about working on my own bike but they didn't. I'll never forget one time Julia needing a chain and Tani walking out of the back with a good used chain.

FGI is a La Habra fan and they also do great work for him and well now FG1 takes care of my bike.

Hope you find someone you trust.

I wish I could rapidly go downhill.

I suppose some mechanics are better than others but a lot of people think the Path is very good. Did you talk to Tani?

Sounds like you need to learn to work on your bike since I have a feeling no one can live up to your standards.

My experience with work done at the Path has also been so-so as well. Chain has come back too long, fork has come back overfilled with oil, front dérailleur mounted too high, and some other issues. I bought a whole bunch of tools just to avoid having to bring the bike in for basic work. I still need to go to them to have my rear deraillieur pulley serviced and some other odd jobs but thats about it. No one is going to care about your bike as much as you do. That is just a reality.

I'm def. not a lbs fanboy but the work on my bike has been on-point the last three times I've been there. +1 on Chivo-dude knows what he's doing.

The Path has done an excellent job for me; couldn't be happier. But if you've got issues with them that you can't work out or something, you might try Tim at Switchback Cyclery in Orange. Not sure where you're at or whether that's convenient but I've heard great things from some great riders and friends of mine. Sounds like he's got a great thing going and great service. He might even be able to please really picky, anal people like you.

I can't help but think you should pursue dialog with the Path. Knowing what I do about the shop, I believe they will listen and go beyond the call to make it right. It's in their best interest as well as yours (and all customers').

Mistakes/oversights do happen. The reason I'm a Path devotee is because my prev. shop made so many blatant errors it became an embarrassing pattern for which there was no explanation.

    Cheers.

I'd say getting your own workstand and tools would be option #1 but since you asked specifically for a kickass bike mechanic, I'd recommend Mondo at Pacific Bike Repair. Flexible schedule with FAST turnaround time, great prices and really cool guy that you could trust with your bike.

Yes, thanks...I am not trying to bash them..just stating facts. As for being picky....a bike falling apart after repair is not being picky. Blatant errors in repairs is not being picky. not tightening brakes to the bike-not picky. Yes, I plan to politley voice my opinion once my bike is finished. A common thread here seems to be a lack of attention to detail or not checking to make sure the work was done correctly. If I had a raft of specialized tools and time and knew how to fix forks, shocks and other crap I would do it myself. unfortunately I suck at even basic repairs.

If you want it done right, do it yourself. I just don't trust most mechanics to do the job right. I think it's funny, I've met auto mechanics who are afraid to work on bicycles but don't have a problem working on the linkage of a transmission.
A bicycle is pretty basic. With common sense and patience you can fix 90% of a bike with common tools. Think about it, most mechanics at bike shops didn't go to school to become a bike mechanic and many times they're just kids.

Have to agree. Tim has great wrenching knowledge and he knows what he's talking about cuz he's an all round rider. His customer service is super. If he's close to you give him a shot you won't be disappointed.

How are you ever gonna dial your ride in with someone else working on it?
