Thanks for the info, riiz. Can we ride the Skyline trail? I see it on the trail map.

Anyone know when the park will close? I still haven't been up there and want to, but my August isn't looking that great.

Shouldn't close till October. They keep it going as long as the weather holds out.

I heard there is a new jump on Miracle Mile that you can do backflips on.. (around 20 seconds in)

So I was in line to buy my ticket and noticed a sign. It said that there was no begginer trails in the park, but staff could help guide beginners down using forest trails. I was also talking to a bike shop owner who said there loosing alot of buismess from the family scene with begginer riders. They're really hoping for more family trails in the park. It should be interesting to see how it pans out.

The plan at the beginning of summer was to have two Green aka beginner trails done by the end of summer, along with the 2 Black and 2 Blue traills too. After Westridge was completed, the building stopped, due to the contract Snow Summit has with the USFS, that limits the amount of trails per year they can build, hence the lack of beginner options.

But, despite the declining business from families, the park is still alot busier than it was last year from riders using the lifts.

I agree completely.. whether or not the local businesses are getting an increase or decrease in biz from families, I agree the park is ALOT busier than last year

That's great news! I imagine they had too many riders get in way over their heads. I hated seeing all of the kids and spouses getting angry and injured trying trails that were too tough. They will complete the green trail(s) next spring, which should help a lot. If they are limited to ten miles of trails a year (like they were this year) Long Way will take 7 miles of their allocation, unfortunately. That makes room for only one more blue or black trail next year.

Side note: Can anyone convince Intrawest to buy Bear Mt. and SS? I heard Disney was thinking about buying them. I shudder to think how that might impact the quality of what's offered.

A Big Bear resident told me about Disney. I am a ski fanatic too, so I recognize what Intrawest is capable of (they own Whistler and a few Colorado resorts. Don't they own Mammoth too?).

I don't think so. From what I know Starwood owns the majority stake in Mammoth resorts..sheit the majority of any resort for that matter.
