My bike weighs less, but my bike weight to muscle mass is much much less, being female. So howz about I give YOU the quarter? ;)=P~ I'll even be nicer to ya, I'll give ya a freebie since I'll be toting my own supplies. My legs won't be the only thing cramping that day.

    vq machine...

It won't be the lightest rigid singlespeed out there (know david has me beat by at least 3lbs), but who cares? It's still about 8 pounds lighter than my 5spot I was pedalling last year! That 32-22 really feels tall, but i'm sure i'll be glad for it climbing that last bit to the peak!

My first CC this year. Debating between my Rig SS or my HiFi 29er. I've ridden most of the sections on my SS but I don't know how it would go when I put them all together. If I go with my SS what would be the recommended gearing?

^^^32x20 or 32x22. maybe 32x18 but that's pretty tall for Pain Divide.

Nice rides! I've done the VQ on a SS and each time I went 32x18 on a 26" and I run a 33x19 on my 29'R!

It's really not too bad and there's only a couple sections after Beeks place on the main divide and then starting up Maple Springs that get a little rough.

    Go SS!!!! :bang:

    Good luck & have fun!!

    Cheers-

I've been running a 32x20 on most shorter stuff >20 mile >2500ft but on the longer stuff I've been running a 32x21 and I've felt ok but I haven’t don more than 30 miles and 4500 in one ride with my SS. Maybe 32x22 would be the way to go for CC....MD is a A-kicker with that 32x20 (at least for me) thanks for the help.

I would recommend 32X21 on a 29r for VQ or CC.
I used it last year and finished 12th overall in VQ.
32X20 would work too, but if you don't have the leg strength, you won't finish strong.

Go with whatever you are comfortable with. Last year I trained with a 32-18 gearing on my 29er rigid. Then, 2 nights before the race I wimped out and swapped the 18 cog for a 20.

In hindsight, it was a bad, bad choice. My legs were used to the 32-18. I was able to do so much more of the course in the saddle with the 20-tooth cog, and my legs were not used to using the quads as much. I still finished with a good time (for me, at least), but the last minute swap ended up hurting me in the end. I should have stuck with what I trained with.

This far out, you can pick your gearing and train for/with it.

    Here is my CC ride.

I was thinking that you SS riders are hard core - but then I realized I will be SSing the CC as well, since I will likely never get out of the granny gear all day.

I am just hoping to finish!
