Does anyone else have issues with Stans seeping through their Schwalbe tires? Every once in a while when I go to load up my bike for a ride I notice a few nickel to quarter sized wet spots along the tread of the tires. Upon inspection there aren't any noticeable punctures that would have caused the Stans to leak or "gone to work".

I'm running a Hans Dampf 2.35/Nobby Nic 2.25, set up tubeless from day one. Should I stick with the stans and hope that the latex will eventually seal the inside of the tires or switch to a different sealant?

Hey Irv, noticed a spot on my HD the other day, maybe dime size or smaller. Figured I ran over a thorn. It's gone now after a ride.
Are you losing significant psi? I didn't. Maybe you hit some thorns and the Stans is just doing it's job?

Yep. Running a Nobby Nic on the rear and get them all the time. No issues with air leaking, though. Not sure what the deal is - I haven't seen that issue, or as muh of it, with other tires.

I've encountered no problems like this on mine - no seeping/weeping thru any part of the tires. My HD (29", EVO, TLR, Snakeskin, Trailstar 3 compound) had plenty of liquid Stans in it after 3 months when I checked it a couple weeks ago. My NN (29", Performance line - cheapest, no-frills version) had dried out more, but still had liquid in it after 3 months. The HD holds pressure very well long-term, and the NN lost air slowly, such that I'd have to air it up 1-2x month.

I check over my bike after every ride, never notice any spots right after. It's usually after it's been sitting for a few days. The wetspots appear in different places, not just the bottom of the tire where the sealant would be sitting.

Both tires are EVO/snakeskin/TLR. The HD is a trailstar and the NN is a pacestar if I remember right.

I had some issues seating the bead on a RonRon but it's a non-UST. No leaks though...

Common occurrence especially after I rode Palm Canyon (aka cactus thorn canyon) had many never affected performance or safety. There are goat heads out there in lots of places...

Yes, I had when I was first set them up tubeless. I have Racing Ralphs (EVO/Snakeskin) on my Anthem, and it took me a few rides to seal up all the pores; probably twice as much sealant too. But I haven't had a problem in a year except when I let them run dry. On my Niner I have S-Works Fast Trax, and they didn't have the same issue.

I also notice Stan's peeing thru the pores on my Schwalbes. Expecially near any raised lettering.
As others have mentioned, just double the amt of stan's , swish around.

My HD Trailstars sealed up easily with no sweating.
The NN's were sweating for several months along the side wall, but still plenty of sealant and holding air just fine.
I guess the thickness of the casing might have something to do with it.

Not a big issue for me and I just adjust air pressure before the ride.

The spots on mine are definitely from holes. Small ones, but holes nevertheless. Don't know if I spin the NN more than the tire I had on the rear before, or they're just more susceptible to little punctures. I'm guessing by the way it's wearing that I spin this tire more than the Specialized Captain that I ran before. Either way, the Stan's seals it right up and I'm not losing any air.

I've noticed major wear issues with my Nobby Nic as well. I'm ~300 miles with the NN on the rear and most of the tread is getting pretty torn up.

Same. Mine lasted less than 400 miles before the main center nobs were basically gone. Loved the traction, was disappointed in the durability. Maybe that's just what I can expect from my rear tires now though...more riding will tell.

How many miles do you guys get from other rear tires?

I struggle with "when is it so worn out that I need to replace it" thing. Being a cheapskate I probably run them longer than I should. I can notice the brake edges on the rear starting to go south in a 2-3 hundred miles. The side knobs do OK for 500+. This is on a HD Trailstar. Other tires/compounds may last longer but may not grip as much when they're newish. So many tradeoffs and so expensive.

Gents just went the same thing, Destroyed my RR on the back in 500 mile (probably went too long) I put the Conti Mountain King 2.2 TR Protection as my rear tire and am really liking it. Less expensive, mounted very easy, no sweating and riding very well / good traction, seems more durable...just a thought. I wrote up a bit more in the Tire Review thread.

In my experience going tubeless with Schwalbe, Bontrager, Maxxis, Hutchinson and Conti tires. Schwalbe's tires had a tendency to leak air during the first month of going tubeless but I never had any issues with wet spots. Have you tried pumping up the tire to 80 PSI? If you have any punctures or leaks they will appear at around this pressure.

I don't track miles (Gasp!), but the 2012 Bonty XR4 Team Issue TLR tires I bought in January of 2012 lasted over twice as long as any other tire I have used, yet they offer a terrific combination of traction, bite and roll. I replaced the rear two weeks ago (that's a year and a half) but it still had plenty of life left especially compared to my buddy's Nearly New Nobby Nic. The front is still going strong after 18 months and 1500 miles(?) of hard riding.

I probably do 80-100 rides a year at 15 miles per ride and challenge my tires by my weight, riding location and style. So conservatively over 1500 miles on the tires, probably much closer to 2000. I don't do much asphalt - except when doing Whiting-Luge-Whiting, once or twice a month.

I had a rear NN Evo and experienced these wet spots too, but didn't seem to lose any significant amounts of air, which I thought was odd. The knobs really got torn up fast too. I like the volume and tread on the Schwalbes, but might just run them in front from now on.
