Rode today with vondork. Most of the trails are in good condition. We came in through the back from Albertsons. Rode down waterfall, up b!tches, play area a bit, etc etc. Some areas are loose and dusty. Saw one striped snake and I think I heard rattlers in the bushes. Watch out for ticks.

Temps were very nice today. Ran into Schecky in the parking lot this morning. Nice meeting you man. It's getting pretty loose out there. We could definitely use some rain. There's a new addition to the jump area up top. Some one had built a pretty big double [i think that's what you call them] with a fairly large pit in the middle. I guess that is where they got all the dirt to build the jump?
you can see the jump just to the left of Leeboy.

Website states "Park closed to the public until further notice" due to fire damage in March. Over 90% of the park was damaged by the fire.

we rode there yesterday. was insanely windy and wasnt much fun. swirling dust clouds and being pelted by pebbles at the top play area made it a no-brainer in regards to doing some of the drops. headed down the area formerly known as "chutes" (i think), it has been graded and is now a flat, wide and uneventful fireroad. maybe it was just the wind but the rock jump on the downhill portion before heading back uphill seems to have gotten larger or something. i nearly wodded the landing as a gust of wind through off my equilibrium.

Their web site isn't very up-to-date: That closure note was posted one week after the fire. If you dig through the parks dept news releases, you'll find a note about re-opening parts of the park. Even that's outdated now, as they've opened some of the singletrack, including Chutes. Best bet for current info is to call the park at (714)973-6620 or (714)973-6622, or maybe email at [email protected]

I rode it last week with Pho'd Up and LoisMustDie, and while most of it looks like Volcanoes National Park, it was good to see bits of new growth popping up here and there. As long as folks are respectful, it'll come back just fine.
