Are you out there? I have a friend that just moved out there. She's a good rider can knock off 60 miles without complaining too much. Shes seen Santa Clarita velo on the road but is concerned they're all hard core cat 1s. Does anyone do any roadie rides out there that she could maybe join in on? Thanks
The local Bicycle Johns may be less hard core. And the old Newhall Bikes guys are pretty mellow, not sure how to get ahold of them tho, the shop closed. But I hear the owner Roger works at Sports Chalet, so maybe stop by there and ask around? PM JeffJ, he's been doing some road work lately.....
Hit up the guys over at CBS Cycling. They are on Lyons. https://www.facebook.com/CBSCycling Santa Clarita has a really cool bike path route. Its called the Paseo. http://www.piasoper.com/communities-of-santa-clarita/valencia/valencia-paseo-system-and-map/
BTW, Neil Shirley is a local Pro who snatches all the KOMs, even on dirt. ( isn't there a rule about that?.....) So her concerns are valid! lol Why doesn't she ride dirt? . .
She's a big mountain biker but is absent a bike and money for one. I'll be lending her mine pretty soon but till then she's doing road.
Wish I would have seen this earlier. Did 65 miles and 5K of climbing on Monday. If you want to PM me her contact info, I can probably get her in touch with a few different groups that would be appropriate.
The roadies out there I blast down the 126 for a couple hours, turn around and catch the tail wind on the way back. It is a good ride, ever slight downhill, then tail wind as the day winds down. On the double back you gain 1000 ft in about a half century.
