I live in San juan on Ortega. I was feeling under the weather but I wanted get out of the house so I drove over to the lower Sam Juan trailhead half mile in from the fire station. On the way in on the dirt road I was greeted by three cars packed w/ bikes and giddy riders. Smiles ear to ear.

They told me that all is clear from bottom to cocktail rock along with the other stuff previously posted.

If your not sick, here's your place to Ride!

I'm headed out that way from Boston January 13th thru 18th. Hopefully there will be no issues out there then.

Rode up to Coctail Rock yesterday. Weather and dirt was great. A few soft spots here and there, but good overall.

Any reports on how things are further up?

Trying to put this all together to see what current riding conditions are. Is the entire trail ridable for shuttle runs this weekend? Earlier post above sounded like lower trail was closed a couple days ago.

Storm chasing on San Juan 12-29-10.

I bailed from work at noon with the intent to ride SJT after today’s rain. Got to the trailhead at 2:00 so I knew it was going to be a blitz and I would need to start heading back no matter where I was by 4:00pm. It turned out that I only had time to ride up and around the lollypop.

I was always pretty certain you could ride San Juan with zero trail damage after a good rain and this afternoon proved that to be100% true. On the way back down I couldn’t even see my own tracks from an hour earlier. The trail is fine just a few more dabs than normal on the way up, more chunk is exposed so there is a little more for the big shuttlers

The bridge survived. the pic makes it look sunny... NOT it was drizzling
    dishwasher 019.jpg
Clean bike, proof of a mud free trail. by the way it 7.77 miles to the LUCKY bridge
    dishwasher 012.jpg
About as bad as the trail gets

Stashed a couple in the stream by the trailhead

I rode it clockwise and thought that the root section could be muddy but It wasn't and I think it actually improved (I love that section). There are a bunch of fishers or near landslides on the lower switchbacks, all the ruts are just deeper, rocks are more exposed, but the lollipop is just more of the same.

I am thinking of shuttling from top to bottom tomorrow afternoon or Saturday if trail conditions permit. Any updates would be appreciated.

Guys, this is a trail condition thread. Feel free to post in the trailhead forum if you want to meet up for a ride. I moved all your posts to the trailhead forum. Thanks.

Read post #22-25. The trail is rideable all the way to Cocktail. From shuttle point down, there will be more exposed rock, more ruts than usual, but overall still in good shape.

Brain aka hippydude on here and on Geoladders posted this on GL about Viejo Tie on: 01/04/11 04:19 PM -- "Extra fun, on the way to Blue" Jay.

    No word on Chiquito.

Not a link, just a quote from his comment on Geoladders. No way to separate just his comment from the page of other comments on other trails. http://www.geoladders.com/posts.php

You'll find his all the way at the bottom, it'll go to the next page if someone else adds a ride which is why I posted his comment instead.

I fixed it and added "quotes"

Viejo Tie is in really good shape. The rains seemed to make it better.Went left at bottom to Blue Jay, this part of Chiquito is good to go... I am assuming the rest of Chiquito, (down to the candy store ), is fine.
